Birth Order and Trip Planning: A Poll

I'm curious as to whether the theories of birth order and personality traits hold with respect to WDW vacations. In short, Dr. Kevin Leman's Birth Order Book describes the characteristics of people in general as follows:
  • First Borns - Leaders, Rule Followers, Neurotics, Well-Organized People
  • Middle Children - Peacekeepers, Problem Solvers, Loyal, Well-Adjusted People
  • Babies of the Family - Extroverts, Attention-Seekers, Charming, Carefree People
Based on the list above, First Borns are most likely to be obsessive planners  , Babies are most likely to enjoy wandering, and Middle Children are most likely to moderate their first born/last born partner.

So, how does your family plan/tour WDW?

These things always facinate me! I think most of these traits are environmental rather than genetic because...... ready? I am my dad's first born, my mom's second born, but raised as an only by my grandparents that adopted me. I have all the traits of a first born and the spoiled "I want it NOW" attitude of an only. Most everyone I talk to about things like this fit how they are raised, not born. My older sister, who was my mom's first, was raised by my mom's parents who adopted her as the baby. She definitely fits the baby/last born roll. Ok....have I confused you enough? And I swear I am not making any of this up! I guess we should leave my study up to Dr. Phil.

I am a first born and before MJ was born I was an obsessive planner, now that we have MJ we use the "MJ touring plan", she points (she is non verbal) and we go :)

What if you're an only child!!

I was thinking the same thing. My DD is an only. I guess she is a bit of a mixture. I'm 2nd of 4 and my DH is the baby. (should have known better:eek: ) The first time we went he was the obsessive planner. But I have since taken over the duties. This last trip we just got back from, we mostly went with the flow. That's kind of fun to do. :)

Love it
Your the perfect example why I always think these studies and the $$ wasted on them dont ever really work. I believe its more how you are raised then where you fit in the order.

According to the theories, the Only Child typically carries the traits of a First Born, but to a more extreme degree. The other quirk of the Only Child is the ability to easily communicate with people of all ages.

It is common wisdom that your personality is formed by genetics and environment. The presence (or lack) of siblings strongly affect your environment. Parents tend to be more nervous with their first than their last. That has to have an effect.

Needless to say, I'm an obsessive, detail-oriented planaholic. I love planning our trips. My wife is a middle child and a saint.
