Bike Rental Questions

Hi,

We’re coming from the UK for the first time this summer and are keen to hire bikes at some point. I’ve looked on the website and it doesn’t seem to specify whether bike hire is by the hour or not?

Also, we thought Surrey Bikes may be a good idea but it appears these aren’t available at WL which is where we were thinking of hiring from. Is this correct?

Thanks

Last trip my husband and I each rented bikes from Wilderness Lodge. At the time they gave them to us for free because the resort was under construction. We took the bikes and went on the trail from Wilderness Lodge to Ft. Wilderness, then all around the campground. We agreed it was one of the highlights of our trip, we loved every minute of it!

We have also rented Surrey Bikes around Old Key West, we preferred having our own single bike but both very fun! I don't know if you are DVC but there are discounts for that as well.

Thanks for the feedback above, it’s very kind.

We’re not DVC members so would presumably pay normal price. As part of our booking we have a gift card so rental could be a good use of it.

The decision of normal bike v Surrey bike may come down to how the kids do in the heat. If we do go for a Surrey bike then the P.O. option sounds like it might be a bit limited. Is there a location that would be considered best for seeing the most interesting area/views?

OKW is pretty limited too, it really is just a path around the resort that you have to stick on, but we enjoyed it. I would suggest the Boardwalk Area if you are going to definitely to surrey's. It once again is limited but Crescent Lake has so much going on there is more to look at vs. the more scenic (landscape) trails of POR or OKW.

Boardwalk sounds good. From what DMW says it sounds though like I’ll be the one sweating profusely while the family do very little! Training starts tomorrow

Sorry, but this is simply incorrect. At OKW there is a walking/ bike path alongside the canal where boats take guests to Disney Springs. The walkway begins down near the end of the Peninsular Road area. You can ride along the canal, then take a left over the bridge to the Treehouses and ride all through there, then ride over to and all around Saratoga Springs too. One of the best bike riding areas around. Would not attempt it on a surrey though.

Well I can tell you when we went in November they gave us a map that we had to follow, and I was referring to the Surrey as that is what I referred to in my original post. If you are on your own bike, yes it is more expanded, but on a Surrey there are specific paths that you have to follow and it is not extensive.

Sorry, did not mean to offend you. You can rent single bikes at OKW and you can ride them all the way to Disney Springs. It is a great ride. And, we have encountered surrey bikes on that path as well, so I guess some people are not following the rules regarding the surreys. OP asked about areas where there are interesting areas/views and have not yet decided on surrey vs. normal bike.
