Bigger people and ride restraints

We will be at Walt Disney World in 14 days! :sohappy: However, one person who will be traveling with us is rather large. My question is what type of restraints are used on BTMR and SM? Are there any rides that would be very uncomfortable for someone who is around 250 or 275? Does anyone have any tips when it comes to this? What about on Goofy's Rollar Coaster? My son wants to ride with Grandma and we were curious as to if she would be able to go on this with him or not. Thank you in advance for any help :)

You should visit http://www.allearsnet.com

That website has a whole section devoted to this. They have pictures of the rides and their restraints, as well as guest commentaries about their experiences.

I've never ridden the Goofy ride, but I wouldn't worry about the others. My dad wouldn't ride Space Mountain for years because he thought he wouldn't fit. The cars are actually roomier than they look!

BTMRR uses lapbars on bench seats, and should not be a problem.

Space Mtn. Uses a t-bar, and due to the nature of the seats could be tricky. Here is a photo.

Barnstormer will be somewhat difficult for someone that size. Not impossible, but definately uncomfortable.

 Hi everyone--I've been "lurking" for awhile, and finally decided to register and make my first post!

I am a "woman of size" and found that just about everything was fine for me to ride. Turnstiles could be a little bit tricky at MK, but that was about the worst of it (and there is always the stroller/wheelchair gate that you can use). I have not ridden RnR or Mission Space yet, but I've heard those can be a bit cramped...but not impossible. I did not ride Barnstormer, only because I was changing baby.

I agree that you should check out Allearsnet.com. They have a lot of pictures and personal accounts of various rides etc. Look for it under the "planning" section, and scroll down, on the left you will see WDW at Large.

I'm pretty big and have not had any problems with any rides / shows / booths / etc at WDW. In fact, it's a relief to go there and not have to worry about fitting into a ride. I have had problems at other parks and either had to ride their "one seat that is for our large guests" or not ridden at all.

Space Mtn has enough room, but can be tricky to get out at times. But, I've heard that's true no matter what size you are!

heres a tip

One suggestion for all of you who are unsure if u can fit on Rock n' Roller Coaster, request a seat with an odd number (example, 1,3, 5, etc) these rows are rummier as they are the start of the car. Provides legroom and is MUCH easier to get out of for anyone, big or small

I always thought the space mountain rides were blue. They are blue, right?

I am about 225 pounds and slightly barrel-chested. I have to say there have only been two rides I have ever felt uncomfortable on. Montu at Busch Gardens and Misson:Space. They both have overhead restraints which press down firmly on your chest making it very hard to breathe while not moving. I thought I was going to have a panic attack and pass out both times.

Thank you all for so much help! I visited allears.net and found it quite helpful and it has put my mom at ease more than you will ever know. Now all we have to do is get there and life will be happy! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. This is my fifth trip ever and my first one since 1997.

Regarding the coasters - I would strongly suggest not pairing up a "big person" with a child. The lap bars only come down as far as the thighs of the biggest person in the seat - thus, the child may not be protected at all in a coaster where there is only one lap bar for the two people.

Just my two cents - other than that, maybe some of the theater seats will be too small - heck I get claustrophobic in some of them!

Space mountain seats in the back or middle are slightly larger than the front seats.

BTM has a single lap bar, I would suggest that she does not ride with a smaller child unless the shild rides between two adults.

I am also a woman of "size"...I was very uncomfortable in the seats at MuppetVision in Disney Studios and in Dinosaur at Animal kingdom. I had bruises after riding Dinosaur...my son loved this ride and that was the only reason I rode it more than once. I had no problem in Magic Kingdom except with some turnstiles--Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean in paticular...Hope this helps!!! Have a great trip!!!!

Space mountain could be a little bit of a problem for a large man, with the seat restraint positioned where it is. Perhaps I wasn't quite positioned right, but just to make people aware.

Your mother should not have that kind of a problem with it. :)

This problem with the lap bars is, as I understand it, the reason that ToT has semi-loose belts that come across now. Smaller people were sitting next to bigger people and were not being restrained properly. I rode it with my son, who is obviously much smaller than me being 4 years-old(my 7yo daughter got him interested in riding it, she then got freaked and he wanted to ride again) and he was held in place fine by the belt. I was happy that I could also put my arm around his shoulders to provide a back-up, but it wasn't really needed.
