Big Kilimanjaro Safaris Changes on the Horizons?

Making it longer would be awesome! Even if it had no story whatsoever other than you're going on a safari. I kinda hope this is true.

What's weird to me is they are willing to take down KS for an "extended refurb" but not E:E. :fork:

Most likely because there are 4 other animal experiences around the park other than KS. With Everest the only backup is Dinosaur.

Even though it was fine when it was the only big thrill in the park. I don't know just guessing here.

If the current storyline was ditched completely I wouldn't be the most disappointed person in the world. Like Jungle Cruise the experience depends greatly on the guide, and that has been more miss than hit for me.

I do think it could be made a great deal better, and I think ditching the "storyline" is the best place to start.

I hear the changes are going to include the name changing to "kilimanjaro Safaris Horizons" as a tribute to the old attraction. Then they'll change Wilson's narration to a peppy Disney channel voice saying things like "Is everyone ready for a awesome savannah adventure? Then let's go and whatch out for those big mean poachers."

I don't want the story line to change at all. I also noticed they called KS a company. Is KS a company? Kinda lost me after that.

From the sound of the article they are getting rid of the rides backstory. That alone makes me happy but only because the potential for something much better is there. Much better.

Agreed. To be honest, the whole poacher backstory feels very rushed, and I'd rather see some live animals than a rushed scene with AA elephants. The story feels very thrown in. Not everything needs an in depth backstory. Look at Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion.

Well it probably feels rushed now because they've changed it about 3 times I think since when it first opened. I think they keep removing parts of the story.

Agreed. The poacher story and fake plotline is very cheesy, and it's rather poorly conveyed to the audience on top of its cheesiness.

As if all of those wonderful animals weren't enough of a plotline. Just let the animals be the stars of the show, and ditch the fake 1990's preachy plotline. Maybe add some onboard flat screens that can show where the animals live in Africa, and other animal and/or Africa facts during the slower travel-time portions of the ride. And if certain animals don't show up, activate some additional info on the screens.

Make it far more educational and interactive than it is, without the bad acting and the cheap animatronics.

Way old news.

Let's hope they don't screw it up. The KJS is so amazing, it'd be a shame if the need for more humans on the savannah would mess with it.

I wouldn't mind the storyline going away.

I like the idea of the Safari ride to be as much like a real Safari as possible. Just enjoying the animals. Stopping and pulling over to snap some close ups.

Sounds good to me.

Perhaps the renovations will be to make the areas near the end with the storyline an enclosed area for other animals to be seen.

I remember reading that the backstory was much more intense, something about Big Red not being found safely (if you catch my drift). It apparently didn't test well with guests and the slapped together happy ending story was put into place.

Could just be a myth though.

A lot of mixed info on the link, but nice read anyway.

I am all for making it longer, but the idea of removing the storyline makes me sad.

If this happens what will Disney do to make up for the closed attraction. This park already has very few big attractions IMHO.

That would be great if they ditched the story and just went with the safari being about seeing animals. I always enjoy the beginning part, trying to spot the animals and take pictures. I'd much rather see more animals than have to go through the stupid poacher bit.

And the driver has to stop talking about the animals because the stupid radio keeps interupting.

How about making Kali longer and ditching the preachy conservation message there as well while they're at it?
