Big Hero 6 Question

I kind of wish Disney would bite the bullet and pay to get the Marvel them park rights back. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is only the top grossing movie franchise ever. In my opinion a well done Marvel and Star Wars lands at WDW would trump Harry Potter. Plus who doesn't want a Rocket Racoon, and Groot meet and greet after seeing GotG?

I would rather see Disney spends the 100s of millions of dollars it would likely cost to buy back the rights, to actually build attractions for the properties it already has the rights to. The cost of buying out the contract could be used to build a very impressive Star Wars land.

You answered your question right there. Why would Universal sell the rights to the top grossing Movie Franchise to their competitor?

Except they don't have the rights to the Movie Franchise. They can only make attractions based on the comic book versions.

Because GotG doesn't exist in one of the Marvel families currently showcased at Universal. While they are loosely associated with the Avengers, they largely exist as their own separate entity.

Oh it was my understanding that Universal holds the license for ALL Marvel characters and families.

Which is based on the comics.

Yes, but there are key differences. For example, if they wanted to do an Iron Man attraction, they can't have the AI Jarvis talking to Tony, as that was a concept specifically created for the movies. They would have to use comics Jarvis, who is CVS brand Alfred the Butler. The Mandarin would have similar issues.
