Rather than a show fountain, just a regular 'public square' fountain would suffice with water overflowing bowls and cascading down around a central art piece. You only need one pipe constantly flowing.

You could easily have some catch-bowls that fill up and then drop water. So, that's not a problem.

There are actually off-the-shelf COR-TEN options that are somewhat close to several of the things being discussed. Creating some minimal tiered or globe-shaped water feature wouldn't be that much of challenge, I should think.

It's COR-TEN steel, and it's already the featured material in the area. I realize people don't like it, but deviating from it at this point would be weird if they didn't make significant changes elsewhere.
My mistake. But the COR-TEN steel is in like one place. I don’t see why anything else would need to be made with it.

It's the grates around the trees near Connections/Creations, it's the dividers and accent panels in the central planter, it's the shade structures in Inspiration Garden, it's the curb in front of the Walt statue, it's the retaining wall behind the Walt statue, it's the edging material for some of the individual tree planters, and ... there's probably more I'm forgetting. The color is also echoed in the built-in wooden seating.

Okay but I still don’t see why it needs to be that. You know what other colors repeat themselves constantly in this area? White and gray.

It doesn't have to be; I was just pointing out things that exist that are materially consistent with what's already there.
With all due respect you said this.
I realize people don't like it, but deviating from it at this point would be weird if they didn't make significant changes elsewhere.
Which made it seem like you thought it would be ill advised if they didn’t use it.

I think if they're trying to make it something sculptural that stands out in the current environment, the right call is to use the same accent material that has been used elsewhere in the space, i.e. COR-TEN. If they are doing something more understated, I don't deny that they could perhaps go with something more monochromatic in stone or concrete. I really just meant that they shouldn't deviate from the materials already in use and that pretty much all the display elements currently in the gardens are pulling from the COR-TEN color family.

Agree to disagree.
