EPCOT Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

We may have reached a new low with so many trip hazard ropes now in place. They are all over the place. Not only is the in-ground plastic distorting and curling upwards, but now the concrete is breaking up around the plastic. I didnt think that was likely when all this happened, but I really think we are getting to the point of closing off the entire area, ripping it up, and starting over.

Do you actually believe it's a possibility that this whole area is ripped up and redone? And if so, do you believe it would come at the cost of a ride refresh like SSE or Figment? Or is there certain insurance/contracts that were signed that protect Disney from this level of quality?

It's becoming an actual hazard, and they just demonstrated with Luminous that certain circumstances can force their hand. If the manufacturer continues to bungle repairs, something will happen.

They're generally placing them directly on top of the warping sections.

This is beyond pathetic. Putting crowd control poles on top of plastic to keep it down is not only below Universal, Busch Gardens, Six Flags levels, it is beyond local mall level maintenance presentation. I am simply dumbfounded on how management can let this languish on forever.

Tearing up the planter and lighted sections to replace them with a fountain makes more sense by the day.

I don't think they will, but they really need to. Just put up the walls, rip it up, and do something better (preferably with a fountain instead of the bland planter).

I think it's more likely they just rip out the lighting and replace with concrete than blow up the whole area, though.

Probably more likely they will just rip the lights up and concrete over until they re-do in a decade or two.

A recent example I could think of is at Disneyland when their Toontown was redone.

There were so many issues with the walkways and artificial grass and people just using grass areas as walkways due to crowds.

They then walled everything up just only a year after it finally opened and redid everything – adding bricks and pavement where there was previously turf to create more walkways. Obviously not as much a blunder as this tho..

Oh I don't think there's any chance they remove the planter for a fountain. I can't imagine they'll even overhaul the landscaping in the planter so that it doesn't look like a random suburban front yard. That would just be the ideal scenario.

One of the reasons Disney takes so long with stuff, and usually has crazy budgets, is because they are typically pretty stringent about vetting vendors, get products exactly to their specifications, testing products in the elements to see how they do, changing things up when needed mid project, etc etc.

IMO, a fountain isn’t right for that space anyway. If scaled appropriately for the area as it now exists, it would essentially be repetition of the fountain at the park entrance. Ideally, the cascading gardens down from the Walt statue should’ve incorporated water features, but ironically, as currently designed, the part of World Celebration that could most use water is where the Fountain of Nations once stood. I think the central planter could maybe be salvageable with some permanent COR-TEN abstract sculptures or something. I dunno.

I bet they rip up the pavement, eliminate the in ground lights and just (try) to replace the faulty pavement.
An awful, awful, failure if a project.

For now, I am calling the destruction of the fountain of Nations to be replaced by this ugly planter with broken ground lighting and broken pavement, "WDW's Rocket Rods"

If the Cars thing in MK fails the way I think it will, the title of "WDW's Rocket Rods" may go to the Cars attraction.

Lets see what happens...

The poles and straps are to keep people from tripping on it.

But black poles and straps are another issue for parts of the light show when all the lights are off...
