I wonder if they could have repurposed this building? Add an extra level on top and make the first level open air?
Adding a roofop garden to communicore would have been a great idea. Access via sweeping ramps and maybe bridge between buildings it would have been a great space and allowed for the buildings below to be repurposed into the festival center with the gardens above

its a shame they never went down this route

The people in charge are not creative enough to think of things like that

Do we think theyā€™ll wait till the whole middle area is complete before reopening the main path through the middle or is there a certain point theyā€™ll rearrange the walls to create a path? This might have been discussed as well, but is there a certain date their aiming for to get this middle area open? I feel like once demo is done they could landscape the area fairly ā€œquickā€ to get the park moving away from the construction zone look.

I think thatā€™s the plan for when the new MouseGear and Starbucks open, which is aiming for a summer opening.

So RetroWDW just posted an remastered home video from 1983 of a day at EPCOT. It is beautiful. Everything is so pristine and crisp. Take a look to see how beautifully designed this park was only a year into its operations, especially Future World.

One of the most interesting parts to me is the cameraman has quite a bit of footage from outside of UOE. Itā€™s a little hard to hear but I think this would be the most audio we have from UOEā€™s original BGM.

What problem was there with CommuniCore West that made its reuse cost prohibitive compared to a smaller, less flexible structure with a starchitectā€™s design fee attached?
I donā€™t know what problems the building may/may not have had. But I can dream up some magnificent solutions if ā€œcreativityā€ is the goal!

Iā€™m not defending the table building or the demolition of CommuniCore West. Just saying that a blanket statement about the lack of creativity at WDI might be a bit easy to make for a fan on a Disney forum.

Please, advise me of your copious insight which I lack. Iā€™d love to hear, by all means.

I donā€™t know what insight you may or may not have. But unless youā€™re a current or former Imagineer, I assume there might be a few things you donā€™t know.

I wasnā€™t attacking you. I was commenting on how easy it is for us fans (including myself) to dream up big ideas for what they should do when in real life, itā€™s probably not so easy/simple. I donā€™t have the insight, knowledge, or information needed to judge my armchair imagineering ideas as being superior to what WDI is doing. Others here may, but mostly likely do not.
