Big Al's song

Funny that if you listen to the song on Amazon, the scrolling line that states the song and artist on windows media player says "Copyright 1999, The Bear Company". I guess WDI took hold of the song recently.

"Blood on the Saddle" is a great off-beat cowbow song, and the CBJ is a great non-PC attraction. The content is exactly what it is supposed to be: a throwback to an earlier time (yes, it was a throwback even when it was created -- for "Frontierland" during the real "Space Age"). It was a throwback to a time when Vaudeville sort of met the old West with barn dances and medicine shows. The original barn dances played on fun country stereotypes on purpose -- like "Grandpa Jones" and "Minnie Pearl," both wonderful country characters that played for years on the Grand Ole Opry, Wheeling (W.Va.) Jamboree, Old Dominion Barn Dance (Virginia), and other barn dance shows (including Hee Haw) but were played by folks who were completely contemporary, articulate wonderful people. "Larry the Cable Guy" does the same thing today -- his name is really Dan Whitney, and he has no real Southern accent.

I love the CBJ in part because it is so well-researched and yet fun for new kids who don't know what they are learning about. Most of the songs either are actual country classics or are written to fit the jamboree/barn-dance style. Old Slew-Foot ("Bear-Tracks") is a true country/bluegrass classic - and fits here perfectly.

It's just a lot of fun -- and a good fit for Frontierland. Timeless.
