BIERGARTEN

My wife and I enjoy Biergarten quite a bit. The food at the buffet is good and there's a nice variety there. The mid-meal entertainment is also pretty cool. The only slight drawback that I don't care for is that you're made to sit at a table with strangers instead of just your party. It can be particularly difficult if those strangers happen to be obnoxious.

We eat at the Biergarten quite a bit and I can tell the reactions of many of the people we sit with. We are kind of in the middle, we'll clap to the beat when the whole place is doing that, and prost loudly but that's about it. I think if people going into it do not expect to sit with others and they are shy, they don't have a good time. We introduce ourselves and also the standard "Where are you from?' and hopefully have some nice shared conversation, but we also talk to each other as well. Alcohol among the adults is the great equalizer. If everyone is drinking about the same amount (or none at all) at your table, then it's ok. We like to hang out at this, I've been to Munich and have experienced the real deal. It's something we do in the evening as a hang, to eat slowly, listen to music and relax a little. I feel pressured to leave if the other party leaves early. This bothers me a bit.

I have to say we avoided the BG for many years because we didn't want to sit with other people. We finally broke down last week and tried it and it was the highlight of our trip! The hostess briefly introduced us to our tablemates before leading us to our table. We were two parties of 4. We glanced at each other and nodded, but it wasn't like we were best friends or anything. The "communal seating" turned out to be just 2 tables that each seat 4 pushed together. So it's not like you have to strike up a conversation with them or anything. Our server was awesome and those giant mugs of Oktoberfest are fun! We weren't expecting the band to come out, so that was magical as well. We will definetly go every visit from now on! Please give it a try.

My DH & I do BG every couple of years. We enjoy it, but generally aren't buffet people & end up eating way too much. Last time we went, we were sat with another couple, so there was just 4 of us at the table. Turns out, the couple we sat with lives in the same town as us and worked in similar fields. We had a really nice time. The food was good, usual.

I went for the first time during xmas for the candlelight processional and we really liked it. The food was pretty good and we enjoyed the entertainment. The other family we sat with didn't really speak with us which was fine by us.

It is not antisocial.... I have zero interest sitting with strangers.... None
Its a bit antisocial. Why would you choose then to eat in a german beer hall? Its like going to a hibachi restaurant and saying you really dont care to see the chef prepare the food in front of you.

We did the Candle Light package here in Dec because I thought my bro-in-law would enjoy it. I was a smidge skeptical, being that we had a myriad of diets among us (picky eaters, pescetarian, ect) but everyone not only found plenty to eat but enjoyed the food & the experience in general. The seating can be a bit weird if you are a small party or a shy family-but we are from Texas, so we talk to EVERYONE.

I wouldn't that is why I have never stepped foot in the building..... Hibachi is a little different bc you are watching the show and I have been 50 plus times over the year.... Never had to talk to anybody.... It's a very poor comparison...

No you misunderstood, it was not a comparison, it was an example.
