Bib placement when running with a jacket on

What do you do with your bib when you have to start the race wearing a jacket? Do you put it on your Tee? Or on your jacket? What if you end up taking your jacket off? Thought of this today as it was a little chilly this AM and I'm running a 5K tomorrow AM so it'll probably be the same temp.

This is a legitimate concern. I remember running the NYC marathon and being told that my bib # had to be visible at all times for the course camera. Since I started the race with several layers on, I put on a long sleeve shirt covered by a short sleeve short with the bib on it covered by a jacket that I left open so the bib would show. I tossed the jacket early in the race. Around mile 8 when I wanted to take off a layer, I actually stripped off both shirts (wearing an appropriate running bra underneath, of course), tied the long sleeve shirt around my waist, and put the short sleeve one with the bib back on. Sounds complicated but only took a few seconds and I could do it while running.

I'm not sure if Disney has as strict rules about your bib showing at all times, but when I ran there, it was hot enough not to need a jacket so that wasn't an issue. I doubt your 5K tomorrow has such strict rules about the bib showing. I'd wear long sleeves tomorrow with the bib on it, be chilly before the race begins, and then be warm enough while you're racing. Or else you could pin it on your waist like some people do, and then it wouldn't matter about the jacket.

I just had this issue with my last 5k. I had a jacket and started out with the number on my tee and was just going to wear the jacket open a bit. At the last minute, I decided it was cool enough that I should be comfortable enough the whole time with the jacket so I put the bib on my jacket. With a 5k you won't be stuck in what you are wearing too long so go with what you are almost warm enough in at the start. Like Jill said, if you wear a long-sleeve tee with bib on it, even if you get a little warm, you should be able to get to the finish fine. Not sure where you are but for me last week, chillly was in the low mid 30's at the start and not much warmer at the finish!

Try a running belt with the bib holders. I have an iFitness hydration belt with them, though I've never used that feature. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow. Disney needs to see the bib to keep the freeloaders out. It happens.

Use a bib holder, tape pin to your leg or modify a water belt like I did and it is a combo bib holder. Haven't used pins in a long time.

Usually would go on the shorts or FuelBelt. Or on the kilt if the opportunity calls for it, don't like putting them on my shirt whenever possible.

I never even thought about pinning it to my shorts:confused: ! That's a great idea!
It ended up not being as chilly as I thought (in FtLauderdale, FL) so I just ran without the jacket but I'll remember your tips for sure if I ever do the Princess as Feb in Orlando almost guarantees I'll need a jacket and/or layers. Thanks all!

I did that for the WDW Marathon. My running shirt over my discard sweatshirt, with the number on the running shirt. Of course I didn't have the sports bra issue.

I have also pinned them to the leg of my shorts at times as well.

Sounds like you got the answer, but I would add that in cold weather Disney races, I've never seen a problem caused by the bib being covered up by outerwear. Someone will likely check you when you enter the corral and that may be the last time anyone checks.

Just make sure it is showing when you have pictures taken!
