Better to use the weekend to leave the properties for beaches to avoid crowds?

I was wondering if there was a big difference in weekday and weekend crowds at the parks in SEPTEMBER. We are thinking of using our full weekend(the one in the middle of our two week trip) to go Coco Beach one day and possibly another beach or KSC the other. I figured that in September, there will be a big difference between weekday and weekend crowds at all the theme parks.. I did think about checking out Miami but my bf (he will drive because I'm under 25 and don't want to pay surcharges) he doesn't really want to drive for four hours to see "just another beach" and we wouldn't be able to hit the night life unless we booked a hotel overnight in Miami (which we really would rather not do). Is South Beach really all that? Is Clearwater a good alternative being a longer drive than Coco but shorter than Miami?

I know the beaches would also be more crowded on weekends but it's not the same as standing in line for three times as long as we would on weekdays.

We were in Disney last September 9-15 and there was a big difference in the weekday and weekend crowds especially at the MK. At first, I could not figure out why on Thursday, the rides were a walk on and on Friday and Saturday, there were long lines. I would stay away from the MK on the weekends because I think that local Florida residents take the weekends to visit the parks. Just my observation from September 2013.

If you really want to take the time and go to the beach, consider Daytona Beach. It is only 51 miles from Orlando by interstate, you can drive right out onto the beach in certain areas and it is normally kept quite clean by the city. There is usually nothing special going on in Daytona in September so the beach should not be any more crowded than on a normal warm weekend. It is a large beach so it would almost certainly be less crowded than any of the Disney parks.

Thanks for the advice; DLR is the same during off-season. Very low on weekdays but moderate to high crowds on weekends. I think we will try to visit both Coco and Daytona beaches on the same day. Are there lockers to put our belongings in so we can both go swimming together or do we have to take turns while one of us watches the stuff while the other one swims. I don't want to leave our wallets and keys in the car.
