I might be a tad biased on this subject since it was my job at EPCOT, but I think its the best ever. It was the special 4 person clan called Park Clear where we would start at AA and work our way around the lagoon making sure the park was clear of all day guests. We would go in around 5 PM, at 7PM we would open and work the Disabled Viewing areas for Illuminations (plus you get to watch the fireworks), at the end we would walk around to AA and wait til around 10PM and then begin clearing the park which on avg. would take us around an hour and a half or so. Fastes we cleared was 33 minutes :).
Not to mention you are almost guaranteed to see the Barge Burn :sohappy:

I remember coming out of Cast Choir practice one night (when it was still held in The Circle of Life theater in the Land) and all of a sudden the barge burn happened. EVERYONE in the group jumped about 6 feet in the air. I think it fried my eyebrows.

pardon me, my ignorance is showing...but what is the barge burn??
At the end of the night around 10:35ish (I used to remember the exact time but it has been a couple of years :() The barge in the lagoon burns off the excess fuel from the show. When I say "burns", I actually mean that it blows off a flame bigger than from the show and louder. LOL.

My first experience, which was unexpected during training (I was not told purosely), scared the jeebus out of me. I miss the burn off, I think I have video of it actually still with sound :). I saw that nightly for 7 months :( sad times.

Yes, that would be a sweet job! *Everytime* I go to Epcot, I see Reflections of Earth, it's my "Electrical Parade", I just can't not see it!

While at Disneyland, I was in Foods, Main St. Restaurants specifically. While it wasn't my 1st choice, I'm actually glad that's where I ended up. At Disneyland anyway, seniority took a long time to acquire in every other area. My friends who are still there tell me things have changed a lot so I'm probably glad I left when I did. What with "Line Scheduling" now at Disneyland, that's creating a lot of turmoil for Cast Members. Frankly, and this had even changed before I left, I miss the days when schedulers actually worked in the locations they had to schedule for. Leads no longer have any power to adjust shifts based on location needs. Sucks for CM's, sucks for guests.

Oh boy, I'm such a fun and entertaining guy...

Corrus, since you first started posting on this forum I have always been entertained and educated by your musings. It was evident to me that you knew much more than most of us. You have shown us a great deal of hospitality with the information you have provided. I do not take your postings here for granted. You have been entertaining in the sense of your willingness to help Disney fans better understand the company. Thank you. You're a good person!

I also used to work Tapestry of Dreams crowd control before we did Illuminations viewing. I love that parade so much and was doing control on its last night by the gate in Morocco. That night was very touching for me, but definitely not as touching as my last night for doing illuminations viewing. The last night of viewing the top "sit down" viewing area was not opened and all of the "Rescue Rangers" (my job role while down there) on their last night there were allowed up there to watch the show alone. Let's just say that all of us, including me, were very emotional. Many guests came up to ask us why all of us were crying and we had to explain it to them. lol

Well I was working at Disneyland I was half-tempted to take a leave of absence and do the College Program at Walt Disney World. I would love to have worked at Epcot, of course. Unlike our Union-based structure where you can't work any positions that aren't in your Union, we were told that Disney World CM's could cross-train in other positions. Not sure if that's true or not, but someone else told me this was just limited to certain times of year.

Well as my job role as RESCUE RANGER, I was cross trained in a variety of things. I was trained over my first 3 weeks in custodial, merchantainment, park clear, crowd control, viewing areas, and DRC.

these seem to be in such differend areas...what area was your offered role in? and was the extra training part of the overtime hotline?

I applied for the ROLE HOPPER job for my wdwcp. As a role hopper, you follow exactly as the name implies, you jump from role to role inside of the park. When you show up for work daily, we checked into our office and then were told which area we would be in for the day. We were given time to change in wardrobe and walk to the area. Every day was different, I can say I worked all over that park. I even worked custodial in the tunnels in Epcot lol (not very glorious to say the least), but then another day I was working at Spring Training for the Atlanta Braves at wide world of sports.

On a side note, Epcot is slowly but surely taking away the role of Rescue Rangers away from the park. This will cause havoc (my personal opinion) because when certain areas have call-ins and no one to take their place, who will be there to give the guests their needs? I sure hope that whoever is in charge of this, realizes this soon.

On my wdwcp, we started out with around a hundred rangers. In the middle of our program, they cut that number in half and permanently placed these people in certain areas (custodial, merchandise, etc). During my visit in january, my boss had told me that she was down to 15-20 rangers and she was getting less for the next semester. ::keeps fingers crossed:: I sure hope they never rid Disney or the cp program of such a great job.

LSUxStitch,

The CP worked somewhat differently at Disneyland. Because of the Union, CP'ers couldn't switch jobs anymore than we could. And most of our CP's were interested in Hotel/Restaurant Management. Since Foods is (well, was actually) part of H.E.R.E, CP's often worked part of the time in Foods and part of the time at the Disneyland Hotel (remember, I worked there before the "Resort" opened). Then there was the accelerated CP program for CP's who were interested in management roles with Disney in Hotel/Restaurant Management. In addition to the above, they shadowed Restaurant Managers and Hotel Managers, basically networking.

A great friend of mine started at the CP program in Florida and met the woman who would become his future wife. They both came over to Disneyland for the CP program. I was his Lead!! He proposed to her after his shift one night. He had brought a tux with him and told her to meet him at Snow White's Wishing Well. He timed the proposal with Fantasy in the Sky fireworks. He had reserved a room at the Disneyland Hotel and they went over on the monorail with strawberries and wine waiting in the room. Pretty cool! He's still at Disneyland and at one time was head of ODV after the infamous Lisa Woods moved on. Not exactly sure what he's doing now, kinda lost touch.

(snip...)

Yeah, don't get me started on this one. All my friends who are still there tell me I'm lucky I got out when I did. But even by the time I had left, things had changed. The net is full of rumors these days about getting rid of Leads in Foods. At first I was freaked when I heard this but then I talked to some friends and the net is misleading. Mostly what they're getting rid of is the concept of General Leads, which was a ridiculous idea in the first place. Going back to individual location leads instead. Getting rid of Leads at Disneyland has never been a good idea in the long run and it's a lesson Disneyland seems to need to learn over and over again. They tried it with attractions and it didn't work either. The plain truth is that most Restaurant managers would rather be anywhere than actually in their locations. Table touch? What's that? There are still some great Restaurant managers out there to be sure, just not enough of them. Yeah, don't get me started! :)

CSUFsteve,
Well wdw works similar to dl in the respect that the cm's cannot switch positions either. It was only the role of Role Hopper that had the oppurtunity to be cross trained. Most of the cp's are stuck with one location and job their whole program.

And on the job loss thing, that information came straight from my area manager :( so it doesn't seem too good right now =/

PS that proposal sounds awsome and hella cute...My future wife will be proposed to during wishes :)

At Cindy's wishing well, I presume? :)

And then the reception at Italy's terrace, with a viewing of RoE?
