Best waterways to explore

We're off to Florida again in March and one of the things we've never done is rent a boat and explore the waterways.

Probably in a pontoon for an hour, which waterway do you think is the most interesting?

Also, do you need to book in advance or can you just call up the day before or something?

I've tried a search but it only came back with prices etc.

Thanks.

I like the MK area for boat renting. It is very open so you don't have to worry about a lot of no wake areas. You don't call or reserve anything though...you just go right to the marina and tell them what you want.

I would say renting a boat at Bay Lake is the best. There is so much to explore and you can practically go right up to the Magic Kingdom.

Renting it at Downtown Disney or a resort along Sassagoula River is pretty good too. :)

We rented water mice at DTD for my birthday in Sept. All I can say is that those channels are narrow  There were two of us in the boat and we really enjoyed the experience; a great memory of our trip. I will say that you can get the same experience, in a bigger boat (lol), by riding the DTD boat from POR... for free

We're planning on renting water mice on the seven seas lagoon/bay lake next month. The only time we've been on the lagoon is using the ferry from TTC to MK, so it's all new to us. We really enjoy the MK area resorts and plan on renting from the GF and making a huge loop: passing in front of the Poly, through the channel into bay lake, across the WL, down to FW, loop back around and across the Contemporary, through the channel, and cruise by the MK before we get back to the GF.

This is probably not what you are looking for, but if you want to see true Florida Waterways and alligators in there natural environment. I would drive a little south to Lake Kissimmee or lower and rent a boat to take down the river. We took a friends boat down the Kissimmee river last year and it was an excellent time. We went through the lock systems and saw over 20 alligators and a ton of other wildlife.

It was just a very nice, peaceful and interesting experience.

We also plan to do this. Was thinking of going down the guided route for this though. We had one of the airboat trips 4 or 5 years ago and while the guide was excellent, it was a little to fast to take photos etc.

Thanks for all the other info in the posts above too!
