When you first arrive at Hollywood Studios in the morning and there is the mad rush to the TSM fast passes, are there any strategies/routes/shortcuts/etc. to get to the fast passes quicker?

I'm no TSMM expert, but I've heard that you should either rush in the mornings, grab your FASTPASS and then get in line so you'd be able to ride twice! Also, I recently heard that if the line is not all the way outside, then it's much shorter than the usual wait.

The "rush" as it is, is pretty controlled by CMs along the way to both the ride and FP machines. But I would agree in going and grabbing FPs early, then maybe hopping on the ride. The queue inside is deep, but first thing in the morning they move people through pretty quickly.

With the new Fastpass enforcement, I would actually suggest walking briskly and carefully following the instructions of any cast members leading or directing you to the attraction and get in the regular line to ride it. At park opening and usually for the first 30 mins to an hour, the line moves quickly and is short. After you ride, check out the current Fastpass distribution times to see if they will work out for you. If you Fastpass first thing, your Fastpass will be in the morning and if you wanted to ride it again in the afternoon or evening, you'd be out of luck. By riding first thing in the morning, you get one ride in the morning and hopefully the return times will move into the afternoon by the time you exit so you can balance out your day with Toy Story fun.

Last time I went to HS I actually had two different TSMM fastpasses at once. I got a fastpass the second the park opened and I was able to get another fastpass for it later before it was even time to use the first one. If you get to the park right when it opens it's not too difficult to do, just make you you don't try to cut through the crowd near that walkway by the Brown Derby since they don't let you do that.

Without question, the best way is to go directly to TSMM at rope-drop, and immediately grab a FastPass. Then get on the regular line. MAYBE you'll have a 20 minute wait. Your FastPass return time will be in about 60-90 minutes. This has worked every time for me. By the time you're eligible for another FastPass, the return time might be 2:00 or later!

My advice, don't do what I did. My brother in law and I tried to be heroes and took everyone's KTTW card and headed to DHS to get fastpasses only to find you have to be in the park to get a fastpass. Only his and my card worked.

Love in a Elevator.

As the rope drops yell out " hey Steve Tyler and the band are doing a meet and greet at the rock n roll coaster "well it's worth a try.

At park opening we always walk directly to the fast pass machine, then hop in line for our first ride. Get off the ride and go ride Great Movie Ride and then return to the Toy Story area and once it's inside our fast pass window, get another one which is usually for noon or a litle after. Thus, we've been able to ride it three times in a matter of a few hours.

After we get into the park (as soon as it opens) we send the fastest one in our group to get the FP. By the time we get there, he has the FP and we all jump in the regular line.

Remember not only can the line for the ride be long but the line for FP can get pretty long too.

Ha, were you dreaming? My mighty elbows have wounded people, when in a TSMM boulder dash, I throw them around like a stack of Mickey shaped hot cakes.

Jimmy Thick-No syrup.

Maybe you're joking (I hope), maybe not, but I have seen people do that very thing while sprinting for TSMM. It's rather pathetic. The year TSMM opened we were there for rope drop (a few months after opening day) and were right against the rope in the front. I began noticing a man working his way through the crowd, making everyone mad but nobody said anything to him, until he reached the far right corner of the rope drop area. They made their announcement to "walk, don't run" and when they opened the rope he actually took a child of maybe 8 or 9 by the head and used him to shove off and run flat out for the ride. The kid hit the ground and was almost trampled by the people starting to run/walk to the ride. CMs saw this and went to help the kid and his family and to the ride to get the man. We got there pretty quick and ended up being outside the building waiting to go in. We saw the first few people that got to the ride exit after riding and this ******* wasn't among them. I assume he got ejected from the park for that behavior. Or at least I hope he did. If it was my child then I'd have gone to jail for what I would have done to him. It's Disney. There's no sense in running for an attraction like you're being chased by a rabbit with long pointy fangs (;)), you'll get to the ride eventually.

And thank you for going in as a group and not having half the party "catch up". :sohappy:

We have never gotten FPs for TSMM. The lines take too long for it. We ride twice, back to back, in the mornings and then again that afternoon if it is not too jammed up.

I send my fiance to the Fastpass machines and I stand by the entrance. When he gets the FPs we head into the attraction. Short wait.

Also - right after FANTASMIC is over - we head there and sometimes the wait says 50-60 min but it's usually closer to 20.

We do the Split n' Slide:
Step One: Split up your party.
One person from your party stands in the giant Fastpass line while the rest of the party stands in the even bigger standby line. Almost always the Fastpass Person gets through the line and gets the passes before the rest of the party, the Line People gets into the building.
Step Two: Slide under the rope, explaining to the rest of the people in line that this is your party and you are not cutting. Viola! Two rides in one morning.

As for shortcuts, there really aren't any. The paths of DHS are strictly controlled in the morning to funnel everyone to the same place. We thought we were clever once by slipping around the crowd to run down a different set of stairs, but there was a CM saying "nope not this way folks."

I would also recommend coming back to this ride right before closing. Sure the wait will be high, but as long as you are in the queue by the time the clock hits closing time, you'll get to ride. Then you can take a nice stroll out of the park with minimal crowds by the time you're all finished, and you've gotten in one more ride.

First- I feel the whole "rush" or "run" is actually a very smooth civilized process. Although, people have so much focus with it that I usually turn over the kids/stroller to DH and I do the run. They met a few characters and tried on hats while I got the FPs. Once I'm done- we try and decide if we want to ride standby once or do other things before FP return. We like the ride, but we don't LOVE it, so I know at least last time we opted for other things.
