Best Tours for Teens/Preteens

We're making our annual trip down in January and I was wanting to add in a tour on one of our days. My mother and I did the Behind the Scenes tour this summer but we will have my two children, ages 12 and 9 with us this time. Any recommendations for a tour that you would recommend for girls this age? Thanks!

The Disney website has a full description of all tours offered at all parks under the 'things to do' section and search by the 'tween' category. I would look there as tours have minimum age requirements. There are a couple of tours offered at Animal Kingdom Lodge but you have to be a resort guests there. Otherwise, I think their ages are going to limit your options at this time. Have fun!

Definitely look at the Wild Africa Trek. My fiance and I did it in August and it was amazing. You get to see all the animals up close and take an extended safari where u can actually Sit and see the animals instead of just driving by. Also the rope bridge over the alligators is amazing and it's nice sitting in the middle of the safari having a mid morning or afternoon snack. there were people of all ages on it with us, I think 8 people total. Everyone absolutely loved it and thetguides are amazing. Tweens would really enjoy it since its not a history lesson like some of the tours lol.

I just checked into the Wild Africa Trek and it's not available when we will be there (late January). Anybody have any idea why??

We're doing the Magic Behind Our Steam Trains tour on Jan 24th. May not be a big hit for the average teen, but it has pretty good reviews. We're doing it because my dad is a big train fan (his dad was a conductor for 35 years).

We did Keys to the Kingdom last year and absolutely loved it - but I think it might be a bit on the slow/"info heavy"
side for most teens minus real Disney freaks.

I've heard great things about Wild Africa. Might be your best bet.

I have no idea why it wouldn't be going on. Its usually year round. Maybe call Disney's tour line and just ask. They are usually very helpful when trying to pick the best for you. Also some tours have deals on prices depending on the time of day you choose. idk if it's still happening during the winter months but the afternoon tour for wild Africa Trek is $50/person cheaper than the morning. I think that's just cuz summer heat though

@officialtom My parents did the steam train tour last January and loved it. My grandfather worked on trains for years and my dad grew up on them so it was their must do tour. I'm sure your dad will love it too.

Awesome! We're pretty excited, especially dad. We gave him the tickets wrapped up for Christmas and I could tell he was pretty well blown away and I hope he will really enjoy it.

Make sure your 9 year old meets the minimum physical requirements for the Wild Africa Trek - that harness might be too heavy for a girl that age. And you or your mother will have to accompany both your daughters since anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. I was going to suggest the Backstage Safari tour since that is less physically strenuous - you are driven by a van to each location - but the minimum age is 16.

The Keys to the Kingdom tour is another great tour, but it is 5 hours of walking and you are tired by the end of it.
