We're thinking about going to Disneyland in 2010 for a girl's weekend and I was wondering from you California-experts when the best time to go is? We're all Disney World experts and former CMs but have never been to Disneyland.

Opinions?

From a crowd level point of view: January through Spring Break is usually empty. But the weekends and holiday weekends fill up. And this is the time the rides go down for refurbs, so that's one con. September through early December was a good time to go as well, but crowds have picked up in the past few years because of the HalloweenTime and Christmas festivities.

My personal favorite time to go is when the Christmas decorations are up. It makes the park so much more magical. There's no beating Christmas at Disneyland. The decorations and parade are great, and the fireworks are truly the best. Early December would be a good time to go if you want to experience it and avoid the crowds.

I'm not a Californian, but I've been to Disneyland twice in early November and loved everything about it. The weather is perfect in So Cal that time of year, and the crowds are very light. Christmas decorations are starting to go up, but the park hasn't "officially" started its Christmas season yet. The advantage to this is the fact that you get to see some lights and nice Christmas trees, without all the crazy crowds who show up a few weeks later to see the official start of the Christmas season. Haunted Mansion Holiday is already up and running at that time of year.

I'd recommend spending at least 3 days in the parks, probably a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, OR a Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. DL becomes MUCH more crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, but it's great to have one Saturday or Sunday in your trip so that you get to see the nighttime fireworks and Fantasmic shows, which do not run during the week.

I'm not saying this is the only great time of year to go, but I had a great time during that particular time of year and thought I'd let you know why.

The entire month of May is also a great time. Weather is gorgeous and the crowds are low. There will probably be a few rides closed for rehab (they do those routinely in Disneyland, unlike "other" Disney parks that shall remain nameless), but otherwise it's a delightful time of year to be at Disneyland, and in SoCal in general.

My favorites would also be May, October, November, or the beginning of December for the Christmas decorations.

If you can avoid a weekend that would be best, but if not, just avoid holiday weekends.:)

What about the first week of June...we are going to see my sister-in-law graduate from Cal State Fullerton and are planning on staying a few days at the Grand Californian. We were there in late June two years ago and the crowds weren't too bad. As suggested we are doing Sunday through Wednesday. Are the schools out in SoCal then???

Thanks!!!

A lot of them aren't out then, so you may be in luck.:)

I love the Grand Californian!! We've stayed there a few times. It's just gorgeous!! And so, so convenient!

It looked like it...we stayed at Paradise Pier when we went two years ago. It wasn't bad at all but everytime we walked through the GC, we were in awe. It was so nice. Obviously much like Wilderness Lodge. We will be able to stumble from Downtown to Disneyland, back for a nap, back entrance to Califirnia Adventure...MAN, i'm looking forward to it!!! I really like Disneyland...it isn't one big store yet like the Magic Kingdom!

Exactly!! And when you're soaked after riding Grizzly River Rapids - walk up to your room and change! Have fun!
