Best Time to Buy Air (Canada)

I have been told my airline employees that work in my office building that the best time to buy air tickets is right when they come out ... especially since we will be travelling peak time (spring break).

Just by looking at WestJet and Air Canada right now for Feb, I can get direct flights from Winnipeg to Orlando return for $1200 CAN.

Since our dates are "set in stone", I don't want to wait to long because I really don't want to go through Toronto again! And the fares for the direct flights are cheaper than the connecting flights.

Any advice on whether I should book as soon as the fares come out or wait and hope for a seat sale???

Thanks

With Air Canada you're better booking as early as you can. As you get closer the prices go up. And their seat sales only cover low-volume days of the week, usually not a match to your "set-in-stone" dates.

If you can get yourself to an airport on the other side of the border... The availability of cheap flights is amazing. I never have, because driving and parking just add too much hassle for me.

We're looking at WestJet and not AC ... we didn't have a great experience with AC the last time we went down, and WJ has 2 weekly direct flights.

We're only 2 hours from Grand Forks and Fargo, ND, but there would be hotels, parking and connections involved. The other closest would be Minneapolis ... an 8 hour drive plus all the above but we could get direct. To me, south of the border isn't worth it and doesn't really offer any good deals. It used to, but times have changed. :)

Is Westjet your only option? We fly out of Winnipeg too and have always found the flights at Delta are the cheapest. They fly to Minneapolis and then on to Orlando. But there is no rhyme or reason to their pricing so you have to monitor their website. I got our tickets on a Thursday afternoon a few weeks ago and we paid $413 plus tax.
