Of course I could not get FOP, was hoping some magic would happen but we’re 2 weeks away & no such luck. So...
We are going to AK on an am extra magic hour. What is our best strategy to ride it as a walk on ?

Walk on? Nope.

Do-able wait? Enter the line in the last five minutes that the park is open.
I’m confused. Maybe I used the wrong terminology. I didn’t mean that I’d just walk in & ride it. I meant that I’d ride it without a fastpass. That would be the first ride I’d go to on that morning. And obviously I’d have a wait. But what I’m asking is for the best strategy to ride it without a fast pass first thing that morning & I wouldn’t have such a long wait. Like maybe 30/45 min Wait. I don’t want to spend 2 hours waiting in line. Thanks.

Five minutes or less before park closing, not opening. Then you’ll have your 30/45 minutes.

Unless the ride has been down and the FP returns are still returning, this is a good bet. Rope drop or EMH will have hundreds, maybe more, of guests all planning the same thing.

Getting to the park an hour before opening and then doing rope drop toward FOP would be your best bet. It can be about an hour wait using this method, but your best bet for anything but the last hour of daily operation. The line looks absolutely awful during this time and can reach the bridge underpass towards Africa, but once they open the FOP queue, it moves quickly up to the point the first round of fastpass+ guests arrive, then it begins to slow.

Marni is saying that if you wait until the end of the day and get in stand-by 5 min before park closing the wait will be shorter.

The wife and I are morning people so we don’t mind getting to the park early and doing rope drop. But this still involves a wait. We got to the park an hour before opening a couple of weeks ago, went straight to FoP when we got through the gate, and we were off the ride at 9:10. So our wait at FoP was short, but we waited an hour for the park to open. I’ve personally never tried getting in line right before park close. A couple of folks have mentioned it and I’m curious to try it.

Even on extra morning magic hour ? It’s that bad? And Unfortunately I don’t think we can’t stay there till closing so we’re going to have to try that morning.

make sure you keep checking the app, even up til the morning you go to AK. People cancel plans and FP's all the time, we got quite a few goodies using this method :) I've seen people say that even RD the ride you're still queuing for an hour or more. Never personally done it myself, just hoping the queues will quiet down when SW:GE opens ;)

Rope drop, even if you have to get there an hour before park opening. Someone mentioned that you are just shifting your in line wait time to before park opening, but if you are close enough to the front and ride it within the first half hour, that wait would totally be worth it because you'd still have the majority of the day for the rest of the park. We used FP this past summer for it and enjoyed it so much that after an afternoon break, we went back and waited in line just to do it again. It was close to a 2 hour wait, but we just had to do it that second time. Enjoy!

Go at the end of the day right before the park clothes.... If you enter the line before the park closes, they will still let you ride.... It was quick and easy....

We can’t stay till close. We’re doing it on our last day so we get to the airport by 5pm.

I’ve done the get there early a few times about a good hour before opening. Yes you have to wait around but you’ll be the first people getting on and then you can go right to river ride without too much of a wait for standby.
