Just in general. I know that's making it pretty broad but I'll be at Disney for 8 days

Wow. 8 days. I have to think of it in terms of memories I've made over the years. If you are going for the experience...California Grill is pricey but you can get away with two appetizers for dinner and not pay an outrageous amount....the memory there is watching fireworks. Make an Advanced Dining Reservation and you can eat, watch the fireworks and come back to your table for dessert. It was lovely. My daughters and I all cried and hugged and loved it. Hoop De Doo Revue is fun. It is a show and dinner and the wait staff sing and dance. We had a blast. We had an unexpectedly exceptional meal at the Japanese restaurant in Epcot. Also in the Biergarten. Those times my work bosses were paying and we went all out. Really good time. Lunch at the Brown Derby was fun and the food was great.

Some in park and resort surprises:

Fort Wilderness Trails' end. They have a buffet, we never had a problem getting a seat and the food is the same as the aforementioned Hoop De Doo Revue PLUS more options. Cute little hole in the wall bar there too with good drinks.
Kona Cafe at the Polynesian was the best wine list (affordable with stuff I KNEW) and the food was awesome.
At the Boardwalk there is a little bar that serves burgers that according to my hubby were great.
Look at the menus at the Disney page or just via google. That always gives me a good idea of what I might realistically eat and how much it will cost. l am generally a vegan and I am always able to find an option and it has always been tasty.

Also...you can make some great memories at the Crystal Palace character lunch in MK. We walked in there without reservations, with three hot, tired, cranky teenagers--and two grumpy parents not realizing it was a character lunch and had the best lunch of our whole trip. Great buffet options and fun with Tigger and Pooh and the whole gang.

Have a great trip. thanks for letting me pontificate. Hope it helped.

Love the Animal Kingdom Lodge restaurants, particularly Sanaa. Definitely get the naan bread with all of the accompaniments! I'd also highly recomend Jiko and Artist Point, as well as Tusker House for a delicious character breakfast.

I can't stress enough how much i agree with this! Looking out on the Savannah is awesome, the food is delicious (Butter Chicken :hungry:), and the Naan bread is a MUST!

Tried Artist's Point for the first time in September and it might have been one of the best meals i've ever had (but on the pricey side)

We were just there and also had regular dining plan. For TS O'hana was great, Boma was interesting and good, loved Biergarten, Rose and Crown was ok but the desert the sticky toffee pudding was awesome. Was not thrilled with the crystal palace I might try that for breakfast but will never do dinner there again.
For Qs Columbia house very good, flame tree bbq excellent, Katsura grill was ok , abc commissary was ok, had breakfast at our resort Pop Century and was pleasantly surprised.

From past experiences Tepan Edo is very good and the coral reef is excellent and San Angel inn really good.

It will really come down to your personal taste for food. We always go to certain restaurants every time we go to Disney. I have two girls, so when we first started going to Disney it was all about the Character Dining. Through the years, even though they have grown up, we still do a lot of Character Dining because we enjoy the atmosphere, experience and food so much.

MK
The Plaza Restaurant
Be Our Guest (Dinner)
Cinderella's Royal Table (Breakfast)

AK
Tusker House (Breakfast)
(I personally like Yak & Yeti, but not everyone in my family would agree.)

Epcot
Chefs de France (Lunch)
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Lunch or Dinner)
(I know a lot of people swear by Le Cellier Steakhouse, but we didn't like anything there except for the steak itself. Been once and won't go back)

Hollywood Studios
I would recommend eating a HUGE breakfast before going to this park. The food choices here a dismal. We ate at Sci-Fi Dine-In and left hungry. The wait, even with a reservation, was long, the staff was rude (even management, which is not acceptable at Disney), and the food was horrible. Mama Melrose is your best bet and it is only okay.

Resorts
'Ohana (Breakfast only)
1900 Park Fare (Breakfast or Dinner)
Mickey's Backyard BBQ (My youngest is 10 and this is still on her list of must dos. This is mostly for younger children)
