Hi all. Just a few days away from my DL trip so I guess now is a good time to start the day by day planning (yes I am a procrastinator).

What are the best and/or most fun restaurants inside the DL parks or in DTD?

I wanna compile a good sized list of the places we want to try and then narrow it down from there.

For fun and casual - go at lunch time to see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies at The Golden Horseshoe at DL. They serve counter service lunch inside and the show is great. It's a nice relaxing (air conditioned :)") lunch.

In DCA Burrbank Ice Cream has great sundaes! We also always get a giant Mickey shaped sour dough bread.

Napa Rose at the Grand Californian is supposed to be wonderful. We're about to try Storyteller's there for the first time also.

At Downtown Disney Catal is super popular.

Have fun!

My votes are;

Disneyland
The Blue Bayou - Enough said. Those that don't already know about this 1967 gem belong at Six Flags.
Cafe Orleans - A pleasant, casual table service restaurant with the Bayou's Monte Cristo.
Plaza Inn - Pretty good food, and a great patio to dine on.

DCA
Wine Country Trattoria - The DCA version of Cafe Orleans, but with modern California wine country bistro fare.

Grand Californian Hotel
The Napa Rose - The best restaurant in the Disney empire, at least in North America. Simply fabulous food and presentation. Decent view of Grizzly Peak.
Storytellers Cafe - A pleasant coffee shop type place, but with great California food and good Disney service.

Disneyland Hotel

Steakhouse 55 - Not quite as good as Ruth's Chris or Morton's, but a decent copy of those famous steakhouses. The decor is very chic, and the 1940's/50's pictures of Walt dining with movie stars is a nice touch.

Paradise Pier Hotel

Yamabuki - Surprisingly good Japanese fare. Sushi is very well prepared. Hip & stylish dining room. Service is very gracious. A secret and quiet locale' is nice too.

DTD
Catal - Best food and service in Downtown Disney. California/Continental cuisine.
Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen - Good food, great jazz, but sometimes spotty service.
ESPNZone - Surprisingly good American comfort food with good service in both their restaurants in the complex. A must for sports fans.

Places to avoid at all costs
Tortilla Jo's at DTD. Bad food, bad service, shut down for several days recently by the County for kitchen violations. Stay away.
Rainforest Cafe at DTD. Available in any big mall in America. Loud, obnoxious atmosphere. Poor service. Food only an 8 year old could love.
Naples Ristorante at DTD. Mediocre food with truly sloppy, unpolished service. Only clueless tourists eat there.
Ariel's Grotto at DCA. Crummy theme park food, surprisingly poor service, and a loud obnoxious atmosphere where you are rushed in and then rushed back out. Unless you are a seven year old girl crazy about mermaids, stay far away.

For Napa Rose, Blue Bayou, Catal, and Ralph Brennan's, you need to get on the phone to Disneyland Dining immediately and see if there are still reservations left.

(714) 781-DINE.

Remember, Disneyland sits in the middle of one of the largest cities on the planet, and there are 20 million other SoCal'ers who also use DTD and Disneyland as their hangout. The good restaurants book out weeks in advance, especially Blue Bayou and Napa Rose. Good luck.

For what it's worth - I actually really like Ariel's Grotto.

Really? I ate there once in '02 a few months after the changeover from Wolfgang Puck, and it had totally gone downhill. I didn't need to return.

Then I went there this past summer with my niece for the Character meal, and it was a disaster. The CM's were frenzied and disorganized, the food was mediocre, the service was sloppy, and the whole thing took on the air of a very poorly planned girls birthday party where too many guests showed up and the hostess locked herself in a closet.

Other than that, how did you like it? :animwink:

Breakfast

River Belle Terrace - Sorry it won't be open for your trip specifically, but this is the best Disney park breakfast around. Anything on the menu was wonderful and since we ate there 3 times during my last trip, I tried most of it. Also if someone else goes when it is open after breakfast, the cornbread is to die for. People go up there and special order it because it is unreal.

Carnation Cafe - This will be your best bet. We ate there for lunch, but their breakfast menu looks great as well

Lunch/Dinner

Rancho del Zocalo - Excellent counter service Mexican food. I got the tacos with rice and beans and I thought it was table service quality. I wish you could get that menu item at the San Angel Inn.

Cafe Orleans - A chaper version of the Monte Cristo that I LOVED. If you want the sides and the atmosphere, the Blue Bayou has it for lunch. But if all you want is the sandwich (which is enough to fill most human beings up), then this is a great spot to get it.

Plaza Inn - Reminds me of the Crystal Palace, but with a much better menu and no characters at lunch/Dinner (Thank Goodness!). I got the pot roast and it was quite different, but still nearly as good as the Prime Time Cafe's version. They also have a pretty good looking Cobb Salad that looks very different from MGM's Brown Derby.

Taste Pilot's Grill - Really the only place I would reccomend at DCA, but the menu is varied enough to eat multiple times. Excellent burgers, great grilled chicken, and tasty ribs. This will kind of remind you of the Backlot Express at MGM.

No biggie. I'm not a big breakfast person anyway. Just give me a bagel and I'm happy.

I'd also like to start a tangent here instead of just starting an entirely new thread.....

For those of you DL regulars, are there any major refurbs going on this week? I'd hate to miss out on any of the better rides. Being a WDW regular I've grown accustomed to constant refurbs so I'm expecting the worst lol.

This week?

Alice and Wonderland, IASW, and River Bell Terrace.
