We always travel with kids of a wide age range and SciFi and 50's Prime Time are both great for that. Very entertaining and I think the food is good - of course we aren't picky!

I believe there is now an all-day menu for Sci-Fi, not a separate lunch menu and dinner menu.

That's correct.

While people love to bash the Sci-Fi's food, it still has an awesome (if not the very best) atmosphere within all of WDW.
It's a must do (at least once) for that reason.

The food?
It's ok.
What do you expect?
Just get a burger or a sandwich and enjoy the experience.:D

It amuses me that they show Di ck Van Show clips in the loop at 50s Primetime...even though the show didn't even start until 1961

I noticed that too!!!

I have to go along with those who bash Sci-Fi's food. I understand that the menu has changed, and that's gotta be a good thing. Last time I ate there, the ribs were like rubber. Horrible food. But if it's atmosphere you want in a WDW restaurant, the Sci-Fi is indeed hard to beat.

My personal opinion is that, if you are *required* to eat at DHS, and food quality is a concern, Brown Derby is the only place to eat. If atmosphere is your concern, 50's or Sci-Fi are your best choices. Sci-Fi is bad if you have more than 2 people AND you don't like sitting staring at the back of your dining partners. But, it's a neat experience once. Personally, I never both with any Italian meals at WDW as there are so many Italian restaurants near me where I live that Italian just isn't special. I have only eaten at Mama's once, and it was a spontaneous late lunch and it was OK.

All that being said, I do try to get to DHS early in the AM, have a snack for lunch, and then leave DHS for dinner in another park (usually Epcot, of course).

This exactly! I agree with everything you've said, with one exception: I've now eaten at every Italian restaurant in Disney World (save Via Napoli, but I don't care for its sister restaurant in Anaheim). The only ones that are truly good are Portobello and Il Mulino. Mama Melrose is some of the worst "Italian" food I've ever had anywhere. You're smart not to bother with it.
