Best Resort for a Girls Weekend?

I've planned multiple trips - some for my family and a couple that were adults-only - and I consider myself somewhat of a planning expert. However, I now have an opportunity to plan an entirely different kind of trip, and I need some HELP! I have really been wanting to do a Disney race, and I have decided that the 2014 Tower of Terror 10-miler is going to be the one. My three best college friends have all said that if I run, they will come to cheer me on. We all live in different states, but do a couple of girls-only trips per year. I am a die-hard Disney fan who makes multiple trips per year, but the others are not. In fact, one of them says my trips are her "worst nightmare" - she enjoys relaxing trips where she can get a massage or sit by a pool and have a drink. She took her kids to the MK for one day, and they left before the end of the day - it's just not her thing. The other 2 definitely enjoy rides and theme parks, but have never been to WDW. So I want to be able to show them the best of the parks, while also having some relaxing adult time. My friends are actually coming into town this weekend, and I want to start showing them my ideas.

I'm going to have lots of questions as I begin to plan, but my first is - what resort would you recommend for this trip? Right now, I'm looking at the Deluxe Resorts. The only one I have stayed at is AKL, and I don't think that one really screams "girls weekend". So what do you guys think - Boardwalk? Poly? Somewhere else? Any help is appreciated!

I've never gotten to stay there but the Grand Floridian has a spa that may interest one of your friends. It's on the monorail and it would be kind of fun to do the monorail crawl for drinks. Hope you have a great trip!

I'd recommend one of the Epcot resorts. Since you're doing ToT it finishes in Hollywood Studios, so you can just walk back after the race/after-party. You'll also want to make sure that the one you pick is a host resort so that you have transportation to the starting line and the expo.

That works or the Poly for some relaxing and unwinding! Love the beach, not to mention the Lapus

Great idea - thank you!

Dolphin.

Close to DHS. Close to Epcot - walk (or boat) back from Epcot if you drink. Excellent pool and pool chairs for your friend who likes that. Has a spa, if she wants a mani/pedi or massage, too. Good fast food place, good restaurants. Won't break the bank.

Decent-sized rooms.

Based on your info, I go with the Dolphin. :)

I vote for a Boardwalk area resort. Sometimes you can get a deal at Dolphin. I just love the atmosphere at the boardwalk. You are very close to the race and entertainment is right there as well. You can go out for drinks and dancing without waiting on buses late at night. If your friend is not a theme park loving person then this offers a little seclusion from park but you are still close. A monorail resort may have a lot more traffic be busy compared to a boardwalk area hotel.

AHHH what a totally fun trip to plan. If you want to stay where everything is elegant then I would say GF. And great pool. And a spa onsite although I haven't been there. Honestly I think the BC or the Dolphin would be the best resort for a girls weekend. So I am with @luv and @HouCuseChickie with their suggestions. If I were to lean more one way I would probably say the Dolphin and get a balcony room. The Mandara Spa is right there and very nice, the salads at Fresh Med Market are freaking awesome, and the breakfast buffet is really good too. You have the entire Epcot/HS access with Epcot being the real show stealer for doing WS. Also if your one friend is not a big want to be in the bubble person definitely DOLPHIN is the resort for her. Great pool at the DOLPHIN, nice workout room, starwood points...I definitely think EPCOT resorts have so much more going for them IMO than the monorail resorts...I love both kinds but no kiddos, EPCOT resort hands down first choice.

For a girls weekend I would suggest either the Poly, GF or the Beach Club. The Grand would be the best with it's spa for some pampering. I did book a girls night for a good friend of mine that was getting married at the wedding pavilion for her and her bridesmaids, complete with appointments for manicures and pedicures for them all. They stayed at the GF and loved it. You and your friends can set up an afternoon tea, get massages or walk over to the Poly for dinner at Ohana and of course Lapu Lapu's!!

In terms of spas remember besides the GF other resorts also have spas...(off the top of my head) coronado springs and saratoga springs both have them. I'd first think about where you plan to spend most of your time...in the parks or not or which park(s), dtd. Do you want to room together like in a villa (or treehouse) vs each having their own room. Everyone's price range.

THANK YOU so much for all of the recommendations! My friends were in town last weekend, and this trip is definitely a go!! We have decided that we're going to stay at The Boardwalk, so we'll be in close proximity to the race, Epcot, and we'll have lots to do right there. I'm so excited! :)

So jealous. ;)
Got the money, honey then GF all the way!:D
Might I also suggest Saratoga Springs Resort close to Downtown Disney, and it also has a spa. There are many areas to choose from ( very large resort), but all of the pools are just divine!:D

Well knowing what my mother, sisters and friends typically enjoy I would say a resort with a Health Spa/Salon, a variety of dining options and nice place to shop would be important amenities.

That being said I would consider:

Boardwalk Resort
Coronado Springs
Grand Floridian
Saratoga Springs
