Best Moderate Hotel for the Holidays

We were originally planning on doing a quick 5 day trip to wdw staying at an Epcot area resort in October to take advantage of the back to school sale. But everything's booked, so looking to go early December now. We've been to wdw plenty of times at this time, but akways stayed offsite at my parents timeshare. It'll be nice to stay onsite during this time of the year, but bc there's no discount not sure we can afford a deluxe this time as much as we'd want to. So my question is what moderate is the best for convenience and decorated nice for the holidays. We've stayed at POR before and liked it but not during the holidays. We're pretty open to suggestions.

Why not just wait a couple weeks to see what the fall/winter discounts will be? That way you can see if staying at a Deluxe is worth it.

I wasn't planning on booking for another 3 weeks or so. When do they release the winter discounts?

Typically early-mid August. I don't have anything against the moderate resorts, but if you have your heart set on a Deluxe, I'd wait. Especially because the Deluxe resorts are that much more amazing during Christmas time with their decorations.

Thanks, I might have to do that. Bc we really wanna stay at the BC. Do you by chance know about what the rate normally is that time of the year, and BC availability? $400/night?

I don't think you'll have any problems with availability. As far as the rate goes, I imagine the price is going to be in line with what the Beach Club is currently charging per night, because the prices at Yacht Club will go up once the renovations is complete. Whether or not that's fully finished in December, is another question all together. I think you can definitely get a nightly right under $400 for that time of year with or without the renovations being completed. You might even get lucky find a rate in the $280-350 range if renovations haven't been completed.

You can see Beach Club rates posted online at sites like this -> http://www.mousesavers.com/2016-beach-club-room-rates-season-dates/ December includes 3 different rate seasons, so you may be paying $450-695 per night for the cheapest room type if you pay rack rates depending on the season.

Rates are published for the whole year in about July/August of the previous year. So a refurb won't change the prices until the following year. Yes, you may be able to get discounted rates through Expedia or something if WDW feels the need to fill a few rooms cheaper, but thats about it. Otherwise it's just the known published discounts, regardless of any ongoing refurb.

Edit: Updated to reflect July release dates.

Well I might start making dining reservations now and plan on booking early December when the rates go down in August. Bc right now it's showing way more than I'd care to spend for BC.

We stayed at POFQ for New Years 11-12 and it was gorgeous. This happens to be our favorite moderate, as it is the quietest and the smallest and during such a busy time (holidays) we never shared a bus. We have also stayed at Coronado twice and Caribbean once, and would recommend POFQ without hesitation.

I wouldn't wait for discounts to be announced. If a discount comes up and you have a current reservation, you can always get that discount by calling up and talking to a CSR.

Just to clarify, you can get the discount if rooms are still available under that discount. It's not automatic, and it's handled more as a new booking (nothing on your end changes) rather than just applying the discount.

Correct, I just meant there is no benefit to waiting. If a discount comes up you can call up to change your reservation (assuming it is still available, of course).
