Best Hotel?

I have all my Disney plans set except for which hotel we are going to stay at so I need to figure out one quick. I am spending literally every dollar I have from now until May just to go so I don't have enough to stay in a hotel other than the Value Hotels. I've stayed in the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, the BoardWalk Inn and the All-Star sports before with my parents and for some reason All-Star sports was my favorite because it seemed most like a Disney atmosphere rather than just a normal, nice hotel. Then again that was when I was a lot younger. I would love to stay in the Animal Kingdom Lodge because that looks incredible... maybe when I get my parents to take me and pay for it all.

Which one of the four value hotels is the newest? Which is overall best? What is y'alls personal favorite and why? It will just be two of us going and I'm only 18 so I am easier to please. This is my first vacation without the "parental units" so I really don't have as high of expectations as the older people with kids would probably have. Thought that could help with figuring out which hotel is the best for us even though they may all be too similar to make any difference at all.

I have stayed at All Star Music and the Pop Century. They were both great. Pop Century is the the newest, but depending on what you are looking for, you may not like. Pop Century is just a little cheaper than the All Stars, because the tax is a half a percent less. It really does not make much of a difference, but it is something to look for. I really liked Pop Century, it was a great theme, and I will be staying there again this summer. Some people make the argument that Pop Century is not themed like "Disney" enough. I did not find a problem with that, so I would recommend it. Also, the groups usually stay at the All Star Resorts, while Pop Century is only used as overflow a few times. I hope this helps!

I loved Pop Century. I liked that it's a one-stop bus trip to get to or from the parks. I thought the themeing was very fun.

I thought I remembered All-Star Sports and Music were right next to each other so I assume Movies is also there now? Where is Pop Century located? You said it was a one stop bus trip which sounds really awesome. How far are the All-Stars?

I'd stay at either Pop Century or Movies (not as many groups as Music and Sports). Movies for the most Disney themed. Pop Century for 1 bus, but more people at the food court, merch. Sports if neither of those. Music last because you could be stuck in a building farther away than any of those at Sports, Movies, or Pop.

I think I am going to go with Movies. I really like the concept of Pop Century but when at Disney I want to be around as much Disney as I could so it would only seem fitting to be at Movies. I just hope it is as easy to get to the parks as it seems and don't have to be on the bus for 30 minutes to pick up everyone else. lol

Pop Century is the newest and IMO the best option. I know for a fact that Disney puts groups in the All Star Resorts, especially because in January I will be a part of one of those groups(ASMovies).

Although Pop is huge, I still think it's better.

Pop Century is newer and therefore may be your best choice. If you are going with All-Stars, I'd go with Sports. Movies gets rave reviews. But the problem with Music and Movies is that sometimes the All-Stars have one bus that stops at all three hotels. You want to be the first one on and the first one off and that means Sports, even though I think it's the oldest of the four Value Resorts.

Movies will not have nearly as many groups as Music or Sports. At Sports and Music, you can have anywhere from 6-8 buildings with groups. At Movies, at most you will get is 4.

Sports and Music are 10 yrs. old. Sports opened in April-Aug. 1994. Music opened in Nov. '94 - Feb. '95.

Movies is 5, opening in Jan. - Apr. '99.

Pop opened in Dec. '03.

I never thought about groups, that is good advice. I have never stayed at a value before. When we started going we were a young married couple and thought All stars would be just swarmig with kids. (and mods were rather cheap back in 1996). Now we are DVC members and we keep considering staying at All star movies on the weekends to save some points and because Little PhD would LOVE it.

What is worse, families with little kids or groups. I would say groups. Parents have been know to keep kids under wraps (to some extent, yes I know some don't, but in gernal many parents are good.) No one keeps groups from getting out of control. Can you imagine staying next to a bunch of Brazlin tour groups? :hammer:

As always I appreciate all y'alls help. It would have been easier if everyone said a certain one to pick. But you all gave good information about each and that helped a lot. I think we are going to go with Movies. I want to believe that since it is the second week of May it won't be as packed with school only a couple weeks left. No one will be taking their kids out a few weeks early to go to Disney when there is only a few weeks 'till summer. And they wouldn't have to miss the important stuff (exams, parties, etc.) that happens at the end of the year. I hope that turns up true as it has every other time I have been in May. That could be really beneficial.

Thanks again for all y'alls help and if anyone has anything else to add... well, the more opinions the better. :)

All Star Movies was nice. My bestfriend and I stayed there. Although, out of all the places I've stayed my fave would have to the Grand Floridian.

All-Star Movies would be the best Disney-wise. If your going to do Disney, then I feel that you should be around it all day long...Don't you?

That's what I've always thought. When I stayed at Boardwalk (I think its called that) and the Contemporary it just didn't see like Disney for some reason. :( When I stayed in the Sports it was always the best trips... don't know if it was a coincidence or if it really made a difference. :)

Why would the tax be cheaper?
Different counties. The All-Stars are in Osceola, all other resorts are in Orange.

It's actually a 1% difference now, I think. It's the resort tax that's different. In July, Osceola County tax went up 0.5% to make it 13% instead of 12.5%. Orange is still 12%, at least I don't think their tax went up as well.

In the beginning of May, groups shouldn't be too bad at Movies.

I've never been in a value resort, but I'd stay in the Love Bug section at All-Star Movies. 53 forever!
You're one of the few that would actually want to be in Love Bug.

It's not far at all to the main building contrary to what most people want to believe.
