If your goal for early opening is to do Carsland and get immediately on RSR, we found that the best option was through the main gate (even though we were staying at The Grand Californian). Unless they've changed things over the past 2 years (which is very possible), they would let us in through the main gate a little early, walk us over to the entrance of Carsland, hold us there until official opening, and then walk us in a semi orderly fashion to RSR. We were some of the first folks on the ride each time we went to early opening, so if that's what you'd like to do, it worked well for us! Then we would head over to a very uncrowded Paradise Pier and ride Califonia Screamin, Toy Story, and Mickey's Fun Wheel multiple times in a row - an exhilarating start to the day!
