Not a book for planning or touring Disney World/Land but one for the creation and an indepth behind the scenes look. Is there one around?

Two of my favorites are "Walt Disney Imagineering: Making Magic Real" and its sequel "Walt Disney Imagineering: Making Magic More Real". The first may be out of print, but the second one just came out this summer. It has fantastic concept art, models and photos of all the parks around the world. Its a large hardcover and features fold-outs, animation cells, etc. The Imagineering Field Guide are fun too, there is one for all 4 parks and Disneyland. Also, Jason Surreal has three books about HM, Pirates and all the Mountains, which are a great in depth look at specific attractions.

Building A Better Mouse: The Story of the Electronic Imagineers Who Designed EPCOT by Steve Alcorn and David Green is basically a diary chronicling the building of The American Adventure.

Building A Company: Roy O. Disney and the Creation of an Entertainment Empire by Bob Thomas is a biography of Roy Disney, but does cover Walt Disney World as Roy led the company through the opening of the Magic Kingdom.

Project Future: The Inside Story Behind the Creation of Disney World by Chad David Emerson is a look at the creation of the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

Realityland by David Koenig is a look at the history of the entire resort.

Since the World Began by Jeff Kurti was the official history book released for the 25th Anniversary of the book.

Spinning Disney's World by Charles Ridgeway chronicles his time as a Disney publicist, but does include stories about Walt Disney World.

Vinyl Leaves: Walt Disney World and America by Stephen M. Fjellman is a look at every park, land and attraction (circa 1991) and a brief overview of its history and its cultural meaning.

Walt Disney and the Quest for Community by Steve Mannheim. While not explicitly about Walt Disney World, this is a look at Walt Disney and his work on Progress City and EPCOT, the ultimate impetus for going to Florida.

What Would Walt Do?: An Insider's Story about the Design and Construction of Walt Disney World by D. M. Miller. The title is misleading as it is more a diary about the construction of the Magic Kingdom.

I just picked up a great one on EPCOT (well, actually I stumbled across it at the local library and now my copy is on it's way!). it was written before the park technically opened and it goes in depth on all the original rides and attractions. Very cool if you're into early EPCOT Center.

The book is called 'EPCOT Center - Creating the new world of Tomorrow"

There are actually three versions of this book.

A lot of great suggestions so far! Here are some of my favorites:

Disneyland: The Nickel Tour is probably the best book I've read on Disneyland. Sadly it's out of print and now quite hard to find, but it's really worth the effort (and money) to get one. Even though Disneyland is the clear focus it does give some interesting looks into both the 1964 World's Fair and Walt Disney World and their impact on Disneyland.

Since The World Began is another great book about the history and construction of Walt Disney World up until 1996. I'm hopeful an updated version will come out in conjunction with the 40th anniversary.

EPCOT Center: Creating the new world of Tomorrow is really outstanding, but definitely make sure you get the larger 239 page version. The shorter version edits out too much information and too many great pictures and illustrations to be of any real use.

I was dog sitting for my Acting prof. yesterday and stumbled upon his collection of WDW books. Seriously, every book I had ever HEARD of was there. I just sat on his floor reading for like an hour before I remembered I was only on my lunch break and had to go back to my place of employment. :lookaroun Oops.
