Anybody see it?

I saw it yesterday in IMAX 3D and thought it was pretty decent...nothing spectacular but the technology is pretty cool! I'm curious to know if it was the same EXACT movie in 2D form because a lot of the cut-scenes, and "build-up" shots seemed only necessary in 3D and would be a pointless shot in 2D.

For instance...there is a scene where the camera is low to the ground and you are at eye level with the stones and rocks...and a horsebacked rider comes from behind you and kicks the stones out. There would be no point to have this shot in 2D...but worked really well in 3D.

There were some shots of the actors that looked so real...if it was a short snippet or a still shot...you would really have to second-guess yourself on whether or not it was animated.

From my understanding this film was done knowing that it would be in 3D rather than a conversion like NBC so the scenes are intended to be there and you would simply miss out seeing them in 2D.

No, I didn't see this one, but I did see two movies over the weekend. I went to "Enchanted" with the family and we all had a great time. Really good, really funny movie. I also went and saw "Hitman" because I had a free pass from when I bought "Live Free of Die Hard" on DVD. Hitman is a good action movie. It won't win any awards for writing or acting, but for a couple hours of entertainment it gets the job done. I did find one thing about it kinda funny, though. The opening show "flashbacks" of what are supposed to be Agent 47 when he was a kid going through training... it's a bunch of clips from the old show Dark Angel. You can tell because the bar code tattoo that is on the back of Agent 47's head and the heads of all the other assassins from that group, are located on the back of the necks of all the kids. Those tattoos didn't just move up their necks as they got older. Plus, I've got Dark Angel on DVD and watched some of the first season not too long ago, so I recognized the kids in it.

Ah, that definitely makes sense.

I'd recommend it because it's a fun movie but maybe wait for rental if you can't experience it in 3D. BTW...Crispin Glover does an amazing job at Grendel! (I wasn't really a fan of how Grendel "looked" though because I was envisioning something WAY different).

Oh, and Angelina Jolie...I know it was motion capture...but...WOW! Wait to go Brad! :lookaroun

Please don't remind me...I love Digital 3-D but even I got tired of Cheap 3-D Tricks. ("DID SOMEBODY SAY CHEAP 3-D TRICKS!!!!AHHHHH!"-Beowulf.)

The nude fight will forever haunt me...

Beowulf: Inform the men I've just killed the monster!

Person B: Gahh!! Jeez! PLEASE put some pants on...

Aside from the spear to the throat...what were the cheap 3D tricks? It's not like people were throwing stuff out at us.

And, he fought nude because Grendel fought without any armor, weapons, or clothing.

I did think that the "nude" jokes were wayyyyy too Austin Powers-ish though.

I saw it in 3-D too and I really liked it. The 3-D technology and motion capture was amazing. I agree that the movie itsself is nothing spectacular unless you are watching it in 3-D. The scenes I really liked were the scenes with snow covered trees which were really beautiful ( BTW, I have to concur on the way to go Brad comment on Angelina Jolie :lookaroun: ). The nude fight with Grendel was kind of odd, and it kinda took away the intenseness of the scene because everything just so happened to be in front of his privates. I think they could've atleast given him a loin cloth to save the trouble. Either way, I enjoyed it.

On another note, I'm simply amazed that this film was PG-13. I don't get the logic that just because it was CG that its not the same as live action.

Do you think it should've been rated R? There wasn't any bad language (aside from some questionable jokes)...and Grendel's Mother was nude...but didn't have any reproductive parts. (Plus, wasn't she made of gold...so it's kinda like a statue  )

The 812 times a spear was pointed to a screen and the 337 times blood spurted directly towards the camera, and the 36-minute-long establishing shot towards the start of the movie...helpful quotes regarding BEOWULF...

"Ok, what is with the monkey and the bug? Can we PLEASE get back to the story?"
-Kuzco

"Don't look where I'm pointing!"
-Crazy cat lady, The Simpsons Movie

"100% genuine animation guarantee, no animation shortcuts used!"
-Ratatouille credits.

Also, look carefully. No one's THUMBS ever move in the movie! It's VERY funny!

Well, there was alot of gore and blood. Especially in all of the Grendel attack scenes. Let's face it, if the movie was live action and Grendel ripped a man in half in the same way shown, it would've been rated R. Especially the scene where Grendel bit that one guy's head off and munched on it loudly.:hurl:

There was a naked Angelina Jolie on the screen...and you were looking at thumbs? :lookaroun

The arrows being shot wasn't a cheap 3D trick...it was a great effect that was captured incredibly in 3D. What's the point of 3D if you're not going to utilize it?

The shots with the blood (The sea creature comes to mind)...if it wasn't in 3D and was live action...that scene and camera angle would've been talked very highly of... It really worked in 3D. I will agree that the spear pointed at Beowulf's neck was definitely a cheap thrill...but nothing else was too over the top.

The person I was with halfway through the movie pointed it out to me, and I couldn't stop laughing at it through the rest of the movie. You know that's actully something I hated. Instead of getting depth in her role, she just came out and was Anglelina Jolie and was naked. Yea. Plus, she had those crazy-high-heeled feet! All I could think of was Tom Servo saying "Hey! She's a Chicken!"

Crow: "baaaawwwk. bawk! Baaaaawwwwk"

Joel: "Hey! She's naked...and she's nude!"

Crow:" Chickens are a cruel people..."

I thought her character had a lot of mystery surrounding her and it was perfect...
