Being built next to Small World?

So would you rather they just build a plain concrete building to put the restrooms in? Restrooms always need to blend in with the section of they are located in, so why not theme them to a movie? As for the Meet and Greets, they are popular with the little ones so I would think that most parents with little kids wouldn't see this as a waste of money.

You misunderstood. I would prefer they build restrooms in themed buildings that fit in with the surroundings just like are seen elsewhere at the resort. This project seems to be on a grander scale than existing restrooms since is comes complete with a tower and various ancillary structures. I wouldn't mind at all if Disney wanted to build these type of extravagant flourishes if they actually invested in new attractions on top of them. As of now, it just seems like a waste of resources when all of the parks are starved for new rides.

You know, I didn't think Disney could come up with a more elaborate way to waste money and resources than their ridiculously expensive Meet and Greets. It turns out they have. Now we get to watch Disney spend years building overly themed and expensive BATHROOMS! Who needs rides when you can enjoy the characters from Tangled while you pee and poop? Coming Soon: A 6-year, $400 million dollar construction project that will involve a Monsters Inc. overlay to the Tomorrowland bridge. I can't wait!

Huh? A huge amount of guests visiting are families. I agree that Meet & Greets shouldn't replace actual attractions, but Meet & Greets are probably the biggest part of the experience for most children.

M&Gs are an incredibly inexpensive way to add a tremendous amount to the Disney experience and a great way take some of the capacity away from other attractions. IMO, Disney needs many, many, many more than they already have.

I doubt the Tangled additions to the expense of the bathroom construction is very costly compared to adding an actual attraction (like maybe 1/100th). Especially knowing how inflated imagineering's costs have become.

Today I don't know what made me think of this but I realized that when they redo Tomorrowland in the future that the bathrooms there should be themed to Stitch. Remove the Stitch attraction and replace it with something better and theme the Tomorrowland bathroom to Stitch, like it's his spaceship or something. When you are using the bathroom you could hear him talking on the men's side and on the women's side maybe have Lilo saying things like she's there investigating something like she did in the movie. Didn't' she like to tinker around and see how things were made? I only saw the movie once years ago so I forget, but I think she was like that.

I think it would be a fun theming to the Tomorrowland restrooms.

I always like to say this to the people who don't like the Meet and Greets: I remember how stressful it was in the 80s when I had young kids and I was stressed to the point of having an upset stomach from the moment we got into the parks because I just HAD TO GET A PICTURE with the kids and Snow White or Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella or whoever (back then, the Robin Hood and Jungle Book characters were always out and also Alice and the White Rabbit). I drove myself nuts keeping my eyes peeled for the characters so that I could get those pictures. If I didn't get them, then when we got back home the kids' grandparents and well-meaning friends would ask, "Did you get a picture with Snow White?" and if we didn't they'd say "Oh, that's a shame you couldn't find her". Like it was a failure on my part as a mom.

No thanks. I am so grateful that in 2012 when I take my niece and nephew I have the opportunity to know when and where the characters will be so that we can get out pictures done and can plan for doing this. I just love that. And I love the fast pass for this so that we can go have lunch and then know that at such and such time, right after lunch, we can go get our picture with Snow White or whomever.

I also adore Cinderella's Table. It is a blessing for my family because while we are having breakfast the princesses come to US. It is so stress free and wonderful to just enjoy and know they will pop over and say hello and we can do pictures there.

I think the Meet and Greets are a GIANT improvement over the disappointing scavenger hunt for characters that used to happen in the old days back when my kids were young.

Don't forget that the side benefit of building these new bathrooms is that it allows the old ones across the walkway to be closed and the space used to enhance the Pan queue... (Or even the attraction itself, but I highly doubt that'll happen)

And the structure of the new bathrooms *has* to be big and elaborate in order to hide the front corner of the Mansion show building. A smaller, low building wouldn't do that.

Now, if only they could build new, larger bathrooms in Epcot between Canada and Showcase Plaza to replace the ridiculously and inadequately small ones that are there now.

Re-looking at the latest photo update on DaMouse this morning to look at a little of the rebar for the rockwork, I noticed that one caption says:
"This project should be complete by the end of the year."
Is this just speculation on their part, or have there been some confirmations on the timelines?

I think there has been a lot of speculation as to when theis project would be done. Some have thought by the the end of the year, but with the amount of detail that is rumored to be involved in the rockwork and water features, I would not think that is possible. So far there has been no discussion from Disney that I have seen that actually officially acknowledges the project as a "Tangled" themed area area and there has certainly not be discussion of a time frame for the opening of the bathroom. In some ways it would probably weird if they put out something that said "Coming this Holiday Season...New Tangled Bathrooms!" ;)

Best that I think we can hope for is an insidered to give us some insight on the project and proposed timelines.

I have a more specific question about what is being built RIGHT next to "its a small world" along the wall. The Tangled restrooms have steel in place. There appears to be a clearing between the steel and the small world showbuilding. Will that be a stroller parking lot? is there something else slated for there? Just curious.

ps. one of scott keating's most recent photos depicts the area with a small construction lift parked in the middle of it. (I'm new so I don't know how to post a pic from another thread. sorry).

I don't have the photo handy, but there will remain an access alleyway between Small World and Mansion. There is also currently a pathway from the Guest areas of Fantasyland to this alleyway, right through the construction zone, so some of the construction work has to be happening around that.

Here is the photo of the area. The part the OP is asking about is between the backstage path and the small world building. I assume this is either going to be stroller parking of a sitting area.

The old skyway station space wasn't being used efficiently, that area was a frequent bottleneck and traffic problem. Also let's not forget that this build will also open space for the Peter Pan queue to be upgraded as well.

There are many reasons for this project all have something to do with improving the guest's experience.

Rapunzel has got to be thinking....so Cinderella gets a castle, centerpiece of the entire park, Ariel gets her own ride, Snow White as well...and all I get is bathrooms??;)
