a couple of years ago, in february, i was staying at fort wilderness. me and a couple of my friends went for a bike ride and we ended up behind river country in some restricted area. near the woods we saw a cage with chickens in it. the cage had a sign on it which said "DO NOT DISTURB VIRUS "A" CHICKENS". it said the name of some virus which i do not remember. there was also a first aid kit with some sort of biohazard sticker on it next to the cage. i believe this was in 2002. does anyone know what the deal is with the chickens?

Disney does a lot of medical research on animals...ok...just kidding. I don't know why they would be there. Was there anything else around, or just the pen. Did the sign have anything Disney to do with it.

It's true. A friend of mine, who knows the sister of a medical researcher told me that the cooking process will render 99% of the virus "A" harmless and ready for human consumption. The USDA requires all chickens hatched after 1/25/95 to meet a 96% virus "A" free guideline for the WDW resort.

Virus "A" is a mutigen that is supposed to yield more gross nuggest area per chicken than other mutigen free poultry. Using these chickens for various locations in MK, AK, and DS helps bring in enough extra earnings which in turn is used to build higher quality rides for your enjoyment. It's for the greater good so no harm is done.

On a side note, the beaks and claws from these birds are used to make those wonderful WDW hotdogs we have all grown to love. It's win/win with these birds being bred right behind River Country on land which has just sat vacant and unused for a good while.

What happend with the animals in the Discovery Island next to River Country?
Most, if not all I believe were moved into Disney's Animal Kingdom. I suppose any that were not transfered there must have been transfered to some other form of wild life centre. I shouldn't imagine they had been left on site. :D

Is the nature walk still open next to River Country?

There was a nature trail at river country where you could walk and see disovery island. If you are talking about that one that is behind the gate which is closed. If you went to mickeys backyard barbecue you might be able to walk it.

OH NOOOOOO....They must be injecting the chickens with extracted dinosaur DNA from blood found in a a prehistoric mosquito. They are making an island of Dinosaur Chickens and will soon open a horrible water ride to go through it. THEN CHAOS and the end of DISNEY as we know it....
