Does anyone have pictures (Looking in Martin's general direction) of what it was like between the UK and France before the International Gateway was built in 89 (?).

Thanks in advance.

Hehe :D

The original bridge (symbolising the crossing of the English Channel) was a single span structure with 2 support pillars, over a canal that dead ended just around a dog leg near the backstage road.

Very interesting. Did both lakes and the boat connection to Disney-MGM Studios open at the same time as International Gateway? Or was it just Crescent Lake and Yacht/Beach/Swan/Dolphin at first?

Kind of. The whole project was Eisners first big WDW expansion, encompassing The Disney MGM Studios, Buena Vista Drive extention, Caribbean Beach, Yacht and Beach, Swan and Dolphin and Crescent Lake.

The Gateway opened Jan 10th 1990 although the water course exsisted at various stages of the area construction. Until then you couldn`t get a boat to DMGM. Even though the canals were dug as the Swan and Dolphin were built, there were still parts filled in for construction traffic to cross. The promonade was initially only built infront of the Y&B, the side where the BW would be was added soon after the Y&B opened.

Wow, that is an awesome picture. I remember when the Yacht & Beach were built-how the area that is now the Boardwalk complex looked, just a wooded area. It is so fun to see how much things have developed.

Great info. Thanks as always.

I have to ask though, do you need to go back and look these things up? Or do you just pull it from the recesses of your memory on call?

A bit of both. Less from memory and more looked up the older I get :D

As any reference librarian will tell you, it's more important/practical to know where to find the correct information quickly than it is to actually know that information. :)
