Beccone's (now) annual August Trip

Hi all, I'd llike to start off with this is my first trip report so please be kind. I've enjoyed reading many reports over the past 2 years and hope you all enjoy mine :)

I'll start off with a little info about my family. There is Chris (39) my husband, myself Lisa (34), Christian (14), Ben (7), Sam (5) and Emily (2, will be 3 in September). I have been to WDW as a child, my grandparents used to take me to visit family in Florida alot and they took me. My dh's first visit was with myself and our older son in 2002, he is not a crazed Disney fan like myself but I can tell that I am wearing him down, lol. When we went to WDW in 2002 I was pregnant with our second son and I promised Christian (then 6) that we would go back when Ben was 4, well then Sam came along and then Emily so our trip kept getting pushed back. Finally last year I decided we couldn't wait any longer so we went when the kids were 13, 6, 4 and almost 2. My kids quickly became Disney addicts and now we are planning to take a trip every year if possible.
Here's a picture of us from trip.

I should note that throughout this report you'll notice that there are very few pictures of my children all looking at me at the same time, I was frustrated at first because of course I wanted to get that perfect shot but by the second day I gave up and just took what I could get, lol.

On with the report, we had to decided to drive this year because we wanted to have our car with us while in WDW and our kids seemed to do really well driving back last year. Last year we took the autotrain down to Florida but our return train was cancelled due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Fay so we had my mil and oldest ds fly home and dh and I drove home with the little ones. That worked well for us so we had my mil and ds fly again and dh and I drove. We left on Thursday August 13th around 9am, dh wanted to miss the rush hour traffic around DC and it worked well for us, we didn't encounter any traffic at all on our way down.

My dh likes to drive while I entertain the kids so he drove the whole time, we stopped a few times for lunch, dinner, gas and potty breaks and thought we might make it down to Orlando but dh was tired so we finally stopped for the night around 10pm about an hour and a half outside of Orlando. We got a room at The Quality Inn, $40 for the night, figured it couldn't be too bad as it was a Quality Inn. Wasn't horrible but definately could not do more than one night there. I was awoken by my cell phone ringing at 5am, it was my ds to tell me that their car wasn't at the house yet to pick them up to go to the airport. I had arranged for a towncar to take them to and from the airport with a friend who owns a limo business. My mil had called the guy and got no answer and I then called the guys home phone and got no answer as well. So panic is setting in at my house because my mil hates to fly and she's stressing that they will miss their flight which was at 6:50am. Finally the guy gets there around 20 after 5am (a very long 20 minutes late), luckily we live only 15 minutes from BWI airport so they got there in plenty of time. At this point my 3 younger ones had woken up from dh and I talking and since we were all so excited to get to WDW we all got dressed were on our way by 6am.

We got in to Orlando about 7:30, stopped at Perkins and had a good breakfast. Then although it was only around 8:30 we decided to head over Pop Century. I checked us in, they told us they would text us when our room was ready, so we decided to tour the grounds a little and take a swim in the Hippy Dippy pool.

My ds called us around 9:15 to let us know that their plane had landed, we told them that we were at the pool and to call us when they got on the ME. They got to Pop about 10:00 (they had a hard time finding the ME at the airport), after my mil checked in we went to the food court because my ds and mil hadn't had time to eat at the airport, so they ate while we got the kids a snack and got our mugs. By the time we were done we got a text letting us know our room was ready so we all headed over there. We had requested adjoining, ground floor rooms, in a preferred location close to food court and parking lots (my ds Ben is physically delayed so he just started walking on his own this past year and cannot walk too far without needing help). We got a great location but our rooms were not connecting ( I never knew there was a difference between adjoinging and connecting), but we were happy with what we got because we were close to everything, we were in the 70's right across from the playground, very close to the 90's parking lot, foodcourt and Hippy Dippy pool. I was a little worried about hearing alot of noise from people passing our room being on the ground floor but it was actually pretty quiet.

My mil and ds got into their swimsuits and we went back to the pool for a while, then we went back to our rooms, showered changed and relaxed a little, then it was off to DTD!

After resting up for a few hours, Emily got her Cinderella dress on and we made our way over to the Grand Floridian for dinner at 1900 Park Fare. We checked in abour 15 minutes early and went to sit and wait, and wait and wait and wait some more. We finally got called an hour and a half later, as you can imagine we were just a little annoyed, especially when the hostess was bringing us to our table she stopped (in front of an empty 8 top) and asked us if we minded going back to the host stand so she could check something. Now Chris and I have both worked in the restaurant business (he is currently a General Manager of a very big restaurant) so we are a litlle more tolerant of alot of things in restaurants than most people but we had had it. Chris said no we will not go with you, we will be sitting right here (at the table for 8), she called a manager over and the manager told her to sit us there. I don't know what was up with the restaurant that night but I can tell you there were ALOT of unhappy guests there. So many people were complaing while we were waiting for our table, the lobby of the GF was packed with angry waiting guests. Anyway enough with the bad stuff, our sever came over and got our drink order, he was great, Chris told him to tell his manager that he thought she should pay for our drinks because of the crap we had gone through before and surprisingly she did. Characters came out and they were so wonderful, the sisters were hilarious, Lady Tremaine was totally in character, she asked Emily what chores she was good at, lol. And Prince Charming stole Emily's heart, she said she was going to marry him after she danced with him. Cinderella was great too, remember Emily thinks she is Cinderella so we can never get enough of her.

We did not get out of there until around 10pm, and had to be up for EMH at MK the next day, luckily the kids fell asleep in the car again and went right to bed.

Day 8 Magic Kingdom

We got to MK just at 8am for EMH, stopped to visit with Mary Poppins who Sam has a thing for. Her and Alice, what's with the English ladies?, We rode Cinderella's Carousel, watched Philharmagic, rode Snow White, Winnie the Pooh (where I finally remembered to look for the picture of Mr Toad giving Owl the deed), Peter Pan, IASW and Haunted Mansion, which was cool because they had us go through a seperate entrance for handicapped and we had to wait in a hallway I'd never been in before. The kids were a little scared of the huge cm that took us to the ride, it was hilarious!

It was still pretty early, around 10:15 but we were already hungry because we had only eaten something small in the room so we went over to the Columbia House got a table and waited for them to begin serving at 10:30. We all loved the food here, mil got the tuna sandwich, which was awesome, big guys had the fish and chicken basket, I had just the chicken nuggets as did the little guys. After filling our bellies we stopped to see The Country Bear Jamboree, road Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain (where once again I got the wettest) and then took the train over to Toontown.

The cm in front of Columbia House let the kids take turns ringing the bell

Chris looks a little goofy because he was wearing Sam's small visor but I still like this picture

We went through Mickey and Minnie's houses, rode Goofy's Barnstormer and the kids played in Donald's boat for a bit and then we headed back to Frontierland via the train again. We found Peter Pan and Wendy right outside of POTC and also saw Captain Hook and Smee. Walked over to the pirate tutorial which had already started but we were able to get real close and Sam and Emily (Ben was to shy to go up) got to go up at the end and got honorary pirate certificates from Captain Jack.

We next rode POTC, Jungle Cruise and then took a break with some yummy Dole floats while the kids played with their new weapons, lol

After our break we rode The magic Carpets then crosssed the park over to Tomorrowland where we rode Buzz Lightyear again and watch MLF again. We had dinner reservations at Crystal Palace so we headed back towards Main St. We happen to come upon the dance party and the kids got to dance with Donald which made their day.

Sorry for another break, been busy as usual with the kids.

So onto Day 8 continued...

We headed over to Main Street and did a little more shopping while Chris went over to check and see if we could get into Crystal Palace a little early. We were not in the stores long when Chris called to tell us that we were able to be seated so we rushed over. This was our first time eating at the Crystal Palace, we had reservations last year but ended up canceling them so we were all excited to be going here especially Ben who loves Winnie the Pooh. Food was fantastic, definately everyone's favorite buffet that we ate at and one of the best meals overall.

Sam said before Eeyore came around that he was going to give him a big hug because he was always so sad and wanted to cheer him up.
3920036964_6db44ae391.jpg

After dinner we walked back down Main Street, stopping along to shop a little, I got a couple prints from Disney Animation. Then we headed out, it was ready to pour at any moment and we just made it to our car when it started. Back to the resort, Christian spent some time in the arcade and we got the little ones to bed a little after 9pm.

Day 9 Epcot

The next day was sadly our last, we slept in a little. Today was our second day at Epcot which we had planned on spending the majority of the day in World Showcase so we were not in a huge rush to make it to rope drop. I didn't keep notes on my last day so I'm just going in order of the pictures that I took this day. Got to the parks around 9:30, the guys wanted to ride a few rides before WS opened so we first headed to Test Track, Chris, Christian and Sam rode while my mil, Ben, Emily and I waited in the TT store. Then we went over to The Land so my mil, Christian, Ben and Sam could ride Soarin. While we waited Chris got a muffin and Emily got a bag of chips to munch on, we had a ton of snack credits that we had to use up before the end of the day. We then went over to WS, starting in Canada.

We just kinda strolled by Canada, unfortunately we did not stop to see any movies in any of the countries, next visit I'd like to but still not sure if my kids would sit through them or not. Onto England, we had no real plans for lunch today, just thought that we would eat when we got hungry so Chris and Christian got a fish and chips meal at Yorkshire County Fish Shop while my mil shopped and I took the kids in to do their masks. Pooh was coming in while we were leaving but since we had just seen him the night before we decided not to wait in line again although the line was not long at all.

I always have to get a shot of Christian in the phone booth, I don't think he finds it amusing anymore though, lol.

Gotta have a beer to go with the fish and chips
3919366131_bdec5f124b.jpg

Next it was over to France, mil went to get some pastries and shop a little, Chris and I took the kids to do their masks and we found Belle with a small wait. The cm told us that the Beast would be out in 20 minutes so we decided to wait while snacking on some strawberry and chocolate crepes and a Grand Marnier Slushee for me! Aurora was also here in France but we decided to skip her since we had seen her twice already.

Beast came out and we got right in line to see him, Emily has a Disney nickname for everyone in our family and she calls Chris the Beast so getting a picture with him was a must.

We heard Jasmine and Aladdin were out in Morocco so we rushed over to see them since we were trying to see all of the princesses for Emily. After seeing them Chris, Christian, my mil and Sam went over to Japan to see some performers while I took Emily and Ben to do their masks and takes some pictures in Morocco.

It was starting to rain a bit so I ran over to Japan to meet up with everyone, we walked through the shops for a bit, did the kids masks and then headed over to America. It started to pour at this point so we decided to take a break in Liberty Inn and got lunch. My mil and I split the chicken caesar wrap, Chris and Christian split a bacon cheeseburger and of course the boys and Emily got chicken nuggets. I newver thought I would be eating American food in WS when there are so many different types of foods to choose from but everything was really good. While eating we got a nice treat.

It stopped raining and we lingered a bit while the place emptied out. Which was a smart move because by the time we left we went to the right outside of the restaurant and came upon a bunch of friends and nobody was in line to see them. When do you ever see Mickey just standing there with noone around him?

Being the crazy character hunter that I am, I was in heaven! The kids got to spend lots of time with the characters. We left our friends and went on to Italy, watched some comedian's, got some yummy wine and shopped a little.

Enjoying the report!!! Your kids are just so adorable!! Man, you hit the character jack pot!!! :sohappy:

Sorry about your less then average meal at 1900 Park Fare!!! I actually just cancelled my ressie there for next week and switched to Boma b/c of all the horrid things I have been hearing about the dinner at 1900. It's a shame, we ate there for breakfast in December at it was great, but I'm not taking any chances!!!

We walked by Germany because that was where we had dinner reservations and continued over to China, just missing Mulan, who was going in for a break. Walked around the shops then it started to rain so we decided to head back over to Germany and see if we could get into Biergarten early. We walked in the shops while we waited and were called in. Food here was great, I haven't been here since my grandparents took me. My grandfather was German so we would go to Oktoberfeasts every year and I love German food but don't really eat it very often anymore. We were seated front row, center and the band was great, kids went out and danced, we all had a wonderful time.

My mil Camille , it was officially her birthday today

That picture in Mexico was the last one I took, I slipped in the rain (gotta love them Crocs) and fell and dropped my camera in a puddle. At first the camera worked right away so I though I was ok but later on when we got back to the resort it wouldn't turn on. A crappy way to end the vacation but at least it happened on the last part of our last day. We went back to Pop, finished packing up (I had done alot the night before) and went to bed around 10pm. My mil and Christian were up early for their flight, ME was taking them to the airport at 5:30. Chris and I slept a little later, got up about 6:30 and were on the road. Trip home was uneventful besides the crazy amount of traffice we encountered on 95. And there was no construction or major rain so all I could attribute the traffic to was maybe everyone was on their way home so their kids could start school on Monday like ours were. We didn't get home until 10pm which still isn't bad for the drive, traffic probabaly held us up 2 hours or so.

Well that's it, my first trip report, hopefully I will have another one soon. Chris and I are discussing a possible anniversary trip in February! Hope everyone enjoyed it!

I just read your post where you were talking about housekeeping and your daughter having an accident in the bed. I have been wondering about that...my son still has accidents sometimes (especially since starting preschool last week). Do the beds have some kind of waterproof pad on them? I have never peeked under the sheets. I am loving your report and your pics. Glad y'all had so much fun!

After posting a question a few minutes ago I returned to your report and finished reading. I'm so sad it's over. I loved the kids rain jackets. Did you get those at the park or somewhere else? Do you remember how much they cost? Christian seems to be a wonderful big brother. I always wanted one like that when I was young. (Turns out I didn't even get a mean one) A grand marnier slushie sounds fun...was it yummy??? That is so funny that your son likes the English characters and too cute that your daughter believes she is Cinderella...she would be great for the role! Sorry about your fall and broken camera. Glad you weren't hurt!

It is a shame about the restaraunt because the food was actually good and the characters were even better but the service not so much..... Boma is great though, I wish we had time to have gone there on this last trip. Hope you have a great time!

Thanks for reading the report, I'm glad you enjoyed it! There is a waterproof matress cover on the bed so you'll be fine if your son has any accidents. Just as long as Mousekeeping decides to visist your room that day ;) I got the kids jackets from the Disney Store online in the outlet department a while ago specifically for the trip, they were only like $8 a peice and are just great. They folded up very small so didn't take up much room in the bag and stayed in one peice (unlike ponchos), they have worn them several times since we've gotten home as well and are in great shape. Thank you Christian is a great big brother, at the age of 14 where most boys don't think Disney is too cool anymore he still loves it. He is on a DVC kick right now and keeps trying to talk us into it. He loves to see the joy on the kids faces as much and my dh and I do while there, and although he hates when I try to make him pose with characters anymore he is quiick to point them out for the kids to see. Yes the Grand Marnier slushee is delicious! Definately a must on each trip, you should try it next visit!

Great TR! Your pictures are fantastic...adorable kids! :)
I was just wondering, you said your trip began August 13, right? How were the crowds? From what you wrote, it seems like you got onto/into almost everything with no problems.
