Beauty to Close on Broadway for Mermaid

Beauty and the Beast will close on Broadway after 13 years on July 29th to make room for The Little Mermaid, which will open at the same theater on November 3rd. Beauty and the Beast will end its run as the sixth-longest running Broadway musical at least. I'm excited for the Little Mermaid, but I'm really, really, really depressed that Beauty and the Beast is closing because of it. It's hard to believe.

I saw Beauty and the Beast seven years ago, it was absolutely amazing, in my opinion. I defintely encourage anyone who hasn't seen it yet to try to get there before it closes! I'm excited for The Little Mermaid, too, I'd love to see how they translate that into a real Broadway show!

Strange if true. I thought Beauty and the Beast is popular, just like The Lion King on Broadway. Didn't it win all kinds of awards.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It actually won one Tony award, for the costumes. And yes, it's still a popular show. Seventy to eighty percent of the house is full every week, which is good for a Broadway show. However, many shows are trying to get a Broadway house now, and many houses are full with long-running shows. Because of this, Disney is closing Beauty and the Beast so they have a house for the Little Mermaid. And now I'm officially going to see it in two months!
