hey what's up everybody, first time poster here. Just wanted to share my own idea on the beastly kingdom:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: The New “Beastly Kingdom”

It’s no secret, unfortunately Animal Kingdom is considered by many to be Disney’s least popular park. Had the original “Beastly Kingdom” plans gone through (ala Imagineers not going to Universal); it is very likely Animal Kingdom would not be at such an unpopular position as it is today. The concept of undiscovered and mythological creatures strikes the hearts and minds of people both old and young. In order to raise attendance and public interest in Walt Disney World’s latest park, I suggest a new, re-vamped imagining of the long-fabled Beastly Kingdom.

First off, I believe the image of a middle-ages, almost medieval Beastly Kingdom would be all too out of place in the modern Animal Kingdom. Instead of magical creatures, I believe a more realistic, nature-friendly approach to the issue should be taken. The themes of discovery, mystery, and adventure will be ever-present in this section of the park. At the core of these attractions will lie a celebration of the fascination man has with the unknown realms of the animal kingdom. Some attractions will focus on creatures of cryptozoology, while others will tackle folklore and mythology. However, all creatures will be shown with dignity and respect, and shown in their natural, rumored, niches, as opposed to being seen as “monsters”. Throughout the area will be an array of bizarre and uncommon animals, including ones that are/were mistaken for legendary beasts. Additionally, the land will also serve as a tribute to amazing animals recently gone extinct and focus on conservation.

Break-down of proposed attractions:
1) An Adventurer’s Guide To The Unknown: This ride will be a mild, yet informative and entertaining show/ride exploring the themes of adventure and “monsters”, and will feature tie-ins with the Disney/Pixar film “Up”. Guests wind the halls of a depression-era (think jungle cruise) adventurer’s club or museum. Display cases of full adventurer’s tools, artifacts and aged books surround the queuing line. Skeletons of pterodactyls hang from the ceilings and the walls are covered in nostalgic flyers, blurry photographs, and faded maps. These forms of media all show exotic locales and mysterious creatures. When guests reach the end of the line, they will be brought into a room with a large screen. The show will focus on a new adventure featuring Carl, Russell, and Dug. Russell becomes obsessed with the concept of “monsters”, and desperately wants to seek and capture them. Carl however, reminds Russell of their friend Kevin and her family, and says that perhaps catching these illusive creatures may not be the best course of action. He then invites Russell (as well as the audience) to come with him to see for himself. Russell (although trying to act brave) is clearly peevish on facing these creatures, but Carl assures him they’re not as bad as he thinks. As the characters get in their balloon, they motion out to the audience to follow them. The screen then lifts and reveals a loading area where guests can board their very own air balloon. These vehicles will be rather large, and will bring guests through various scenes displaying realistic, high-tech animatronics of popular creatures in their natural environments. Carl will narrate the journey, as explain the histories and details of such animals. Animatronics of Carl, Russell, and Dug will be shown in the scenes, often in comic situations. Some creatures to consider would be:
· Sasquatch (Bigfoot) - A family of Sasquatch will be shown in a North American forest.
· Loch Ness Monster- Nessie will be shown swimming in the foggy waters of Scotland.
· Thunderbirds- Roosting in the cliffs and soaring the skies of the American Southwest.
· Chupacabra- Seen lurking in the dark, stormy, Central American rain forest.
· Dragons- Dragons shown inhabitating mountains and caves in Europe
· Unicorns- Majestically grazing in a beautiful European forest.
· Bunyip- Shown swimming in the rugged Australian Outback.
These are just a small sample of the potential creatures that would be used. A focus on understanding of these creatures will be stressed to guests. Russell will go from being afraid of these creatures to understanding their complex niches in nature, and learn that they should remain undisturbed. The ride will close with a large room showing on screen various extinct animals, and Carl will explain to the audience the need to preserve the environment and the wondrous animals that live there.
2) Adventure Trails: Located next to the fore-mentioned attraction. This trail, similar to other trails in the park, will be home to many rare and unusual creatures found in the wild. Such creatures to consider would be:
· The Frilled Lizard
· Manatees (mistaken by sailors for Mermaids)
· Echidnas
· Platypuses
· Japanese Giant Salamander
· Okapi
· Babirusa
3) Lair of the Dragon: This high-speed e-ticket ride will be similar to the previously planned Dragon themed coaster. An abandoned, eerie castle will be the center piece of this attraction which has guests embark on a mission to find long lost treasure in a castle now inhabited by a ferocious dragon. Instructed by a team of modern explorers, guests are whisked away on a bottomless coaster into the dark, dreary castle. Abandoned for centuries, the castle is adorned with skeletons of failed missions for the treasure. As the ride twists and turns and nears the room housing the dragon, roars and hisses can be heard, much to the fright of the rider. Soon the ride reaches a pitch-black room. The cars come to a complete stop, and for a few moments sit in blackened silence. Suddenly a roar is heard, and a dragon is illuminated and is very angry. The coasters then take an extremely speedy escape (think Universal’s Hulk Coaster) out of the room, just in time as the dragon fills the room with fire. The coaster then makes its way to the treasure room, and it is assumed nabs the treasure successfully. However, sounds and sights suggest the dragon is still in close pursuit, and a race to escape begins. After a few near misses with the beast, it seems as if it the rider has lost the creature. Then the riders come see what the cause of the dragon’s rage is: it is merely guarding its babies. The dragon is shown nursing its young children, but turns to give the riders one last fireball.

These are just a few ideas for the attractions that could be included in this new section of the park. Of course, restaurants and shops will also accompany these attractions, as well as opportunities to meet and greet characters from films relating to the attractions (Characters from Up, etc.)

whatcha think? feedback would be great

EDIT: Oh wait, there is a unicorn.

BTW, I'm not too fond of the Fantasia boat ride idea (Probably because of the dancing animals that were to be there). How about a boat ride through the rivers of BK, with non-goofy looking creatures there?
