Great info here! I think without kids, we made the right choice of YC, but will very likely explore both while there. 28 days and counting...
YC is great even with kids. We opt for the YC over BC because it is quieter on that side, and you still get the pool and have the short walk to HS and Epcot. We stayed there for Christmas twice and loved it. Its been part of our summer trips each year as well. No matter what time of year we have stayed there its a quiet resort and we love that!

Crazy question: Can you enter EPCOT using the International Gateway when the park opens although Worldshowcase is not open yet? Or do you have to go all the way around to the front of the park? :)

Yes. As @Tuvalu said, you can. WS will be roped off and you can make your way right to the front of Epcot with very little traffic. That is actually my favorite entrance to any of the parks in WDW!

Great question and answer. I guess that kind of kills the "rope drop" type idea, though LOL. I think I'll wait for World Showcase to open...or try to hit rope drop at Hollywood Studios (?) (We've never been there right at opening before.)
If you do the rope drop during Star Wars weekends at DHS, you can storm the park with the Stormtroppers!

It can be more enjoyable than the front of Epcot. There isnt an opening show like MK, so there really isnt anything you miss other than the crowds. There have been days when we were in Epcot and through WS before the front entrance was even opened (if the CMs would open the gate about 10 minutes early which doesnt always happen, but its great when they do). We would then wait for a short time (never more than 5 minutes) near the split for Soarin' and TT. Once the main entrance was open we would be off. We have been on the very first ride of Soarin' entering this way. Got off and right back on again in fact before making our way to TT all in less than an hour.

A few years ago Epcot use to have a welcome show with the characters that happened by the Fountain of Nations in Future World. On one side was the guests who entered through the Future World gates and the other side was those who entered through the International Gateway. Now as you said sometimes the Cast Members at the International Gateway would not always open the gate there on time and that once happened to me. In August 2011 I remember they opened them 2:00 minutes before Epcot was scheduled to open at 9:00 AM and those who entered through Future World were let in at least 15:00 minutes before, since I heard the ending of the welcome show as I was walking very fast to Soarin. Today the Cast Members claim both the Future World and International Gateway entrances open at the same time each morning, however I have my doubts about that.

Can you see EPCOT fireworks from YC? Which balcony did you stay at? Thanks :) Exciting!
Sorry for the so so late reply, we've been traveling! We stayed in a room with a view of the lake, near the docks, but, can't remember the number. I know we requested the same location each visit and they gave us nearly the same each time. The CAst Members were able to put us there by description of the view. Over slightly To the right of the lighthouse and straight across the lake to apparently Illuminations!

Anyone know if the YC is starting room renovations soon...if so, any ideas on completion ? Anyone stay at the BC during renovations ? Was the noise tolerable ?

We are contemplating YC Club Level for March. The deal we have on the table might be too good to pass up. We have never stayed in that loop, recently just CR, AKL,Poly....Keep going back and forth
