I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten their child's 1st haircut at the barber shop on main street in MK? I heard of it a few months ago, but never thought our son's hair would be long enough for needing his 1st haircut at 10 months old....but it's already long enough and in 3 1/2 weeks, he'll definitely need a cut. How much is it? Do you need an appointment? Is it worth the money?

We got our sons first haircut at the Main Street Barbers, he was also 10 months old. For us, it was a great experience. They barber was very patient and he knew how to distract him enough to be able to do the cut. The price I think was $14.95 and totally worth it. You get a pair of Mickey ears with First Haircut embroidered on it. A certificate that he got his first haircut and of course they give you a locks of his hair. You get to take a ton of pictures & video and again, the barbers are so wonderful. Plus if you are feeling adventures, you could always ask for pixie dust.

The Harmony Barbershop is a blast. I can't speak for first-time haircuts, but I got one there on my last trip, and the barber not only did a fantastic job, but the atmosphere was friendly and warm, as it should be in an "old-style" barbershop. I hear good things about children getting their first haircut at Harmony, so I would say go ahead and do it! :) TomHendricks said it best. above me ^^^^^

We did my youngest daughters first hair cut there and it was a great experience. The barbers there are quite use to dealing with kids and IMHO there is no better place in the world to get a first haircut. The barber shop just started taking reservations and I would highly recommend making one to avoid a rather long wait.

Here is a picture of a shadow box I did with some pictures, the hat and certificate.

From what I read in a thread (here, I think). If you make a reservation and arrive at the Barber Shop and there's a line, make sure that go go INTO the Barber Shop and tell them that you have a reservation. They will then take you as soon as possible. Some others were upset that they waited at the end of the line outside for an hour past their reservation time.

Thank you all so much! I think I'll call and do that! Just 3 weeks and 2 days away....woo hoo :)

Now, for the big question....where can I find the phone number? Would I just call the main Disney number?

I have not done one yet but I think they are going through Disney Dining. If you call the main number they should be able to get you where you need to go.

Unfortunately they do not accept reservations. It is first come, first serve...Everytime we go, my son gets his hair cut by Michael. He has cut his hair everytime since he was an infant and got his first hair cut there. We go to the MK a couple times a year.

It's a recent policy change--reservations are now accepted. I'm not sure exactly what department it falls under reservations-wise, but everything is booked through the same system, so dining should be able to handle it.

My daughter has had her hair cut there four times now and all have been great experiences. Rex has done her hair the last three times and everyone comments on how cute her curls are. They all do a great job, they even managed to get my husband's unruly hair under control during our last visit!

I went to get a haircut there a few weeks ago and a lot of parents were taking their kids for their first haircut. It is very popular, and I recommend going a little later in the morning/afternoon and avoiding the opening rush.

Apparently early morning is popular because I couldn't get an appointment until 2 pm, but that's ok. We'll go for our afternoon nap after the haircut! I'm soooo excited :)

It is, I waited about 45 minutes as a walk up for my haircut. I plan on going in the afternoon when I need one next.

Just got back from a trip to WDW and my son almost a year got his first haircut. He really doesn't have much hair but the barber was great! The wait wasn't long at all maybe 5 mins and it was $18.95. They give you his hair, a cert, and first haircut ears. Oh we went after the 3:00pm parade.

Here are some photos.
