Bar/Lounges in WDW

Hey all,

Planning a trip for January (Father and Sister-in-law are running in the half-marathon) and its the first time I'm going to Disney as an adult (over 21, will be 23 then) with a group of adults. I'm just looking for a place that might be a nice spot to hangout and socialize and have a few drinks. Anytime I've gone before with my family I was younger so we never went to any bar/lounges, and since I've been 21 I've only gone with my girlfriend; and it's just more fun when you have like 8 people to hangout in a lounge atmosphere. So, I don't really know much about bar/lounges in WDW. ESPN Club wouldn't be the atmosphere I'd be interested in, I love sports, don't get me wrong, but that seems like it'd be too loud, not as much "just sit around and relax and hangout" kind of an atmosphere.

Anywho, what do people know of the Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian? Is that a nice relaxing spot? I'm a BIG fan of like... well tropical drinks. It looks like the lounge has some good-looking drinks. We're going to be staying at Port Orleans, anyone ever go to the River Roost? That'd be a lot more convenient, we could go there and just hangout until whenever we wanted to go to bed and walk back; but Tambu Lounge just looked a little nicer, more relaxing. Any thoughts on those two places or reccommendations for others? Thanks!!

Hi Joe...Hope you and Allie are well..:)..I miss you!

The lounge at the Poly is nice..kinda busy with the people from O'hana though...They have amazing drinks though..Lapu Lapu is my fave..:)
I like to bring them down to the bech and watch the water parade and fireworks..it is really nice..:)

I have never been to the one at POR..but when staying at the POP we would hang out by the bar or the pool and then walk back to the room and it was really nice so I assume it will also be nice..Im sure all the ones at the hotels are...

The Outer Rim at the Contemporary is great but with the refurbs going on you need to check about that one..Hope you have a GREAT time..:)

If Foo Foo drinks are what you want you can't go wrong at the Tambu.
It's a tiny little bar just outside of Ohana, it can get quite hectic there.

Two words: Belle Vue :D

The Belle Vue Lounge is located off the lobby of the Boardwalk Inn. It's very nice, has some nice armchairs and sofas to relax and chat. Soft Big Band music in the background, and I hear they have a nice collection of single malt scotches if you're into them.
There's also some vintage boardgames on the shelves that you can set up and use, if you want. The only time I've ever seen it loud and crowded was when there was when a large post-rehearsal-dinner wedding party stopped by the lounge.

The Adventurer's Club on Pleasure Island is also a nice place to sit and chat. The Mask and Treasure rooms off the Main Salon are quiet and comfortable except for the 4 or 5 short shows performed there throughout the night. The Main Salon and the 2nd floor mezzanine are also good for conversation when the actors aren't out hamming it up. :)

Last fall, my wife and I headed over to the GF and had a drink at Mizner's Lounge (on the 3rd floor).....it has a window view of the lake and was very comfortable....however, the best part was that there was a swing band playing just outside the bar and facing ACROSS the GF, as such, the sound was good, but not overbearing.....they had a few wines and a full bar, as I recall....

Don't worry that it's the GF, it isn't stuffy or pretentious or any of those things that some people associate with the "hoity-toity rich"......

Also of note, as we're not "club" type folks, we DID NOT enjoy Pleasure Island AT ALL.....except for Ragland Road, that is........

Good luck and enjoy!!!

DH and I loved Jellyrolls when we were in WDW last. I really think an evening walking along/through The Boardwalk is one of the best ways to spend an evening.

Mizner's at GF is great. It's quiet and dark. The bartender makes one of the best Mojito's on property. Mmmmmm....Minty...

However the Tambu Lounge is also a fun place with a bit more noise and activity.

For some real fun, you can monorail back and forth between them...

My favorites:
Scat Cat Lounge at POFQ
(Fireside Lounge) Can't remember the exact name at POR
Captain Jack's Margarita Bar-DTD (Had to put in a plug for DW  )
Ad Club
House of Blues Outdoor Bar for some fun music (drinks are so-so and expensive).
All Star Cafe (hey, half of drinks for Cast Members, can't complain).
Big River Grill - Boardwalk - pretty good micro-brews. The Octoberfest specialty brew is tasty:slurp:

The Bel Vue Room is by far my favorite lounge at WDW. A real hidden gem. Few people know where it is, and the patio is awesome. Mizners is also great, but doesn't have the theme atmosphere Bel Vue does (checkers, chess, 1920's radio music, etc).

We also like River Roost at POR and Outer Rim. We also like to grab a couple beers from the Poly gift shop and enjoy on the beach.

I swear we don't spend all of our vacation drinking! :animwink:

Our favorites are:
Captn' Jacks at DTD
Belle Vue Room at BW
Mizner's at GF
Narcoossee's in the restaurant at GF
there's also a small bar on the left side of the lobby at the Yacht Club that I like because of all the rich wood and atmosphere.

I always enjoyed the lounge at the Coronado, it seems to be the only place to get a decent priced pitcher of Dos Equis. Last time I was there (it's been two years) I was able to get a pitcher for $12. Try to get that anywhere else on property. :p

The Poly bar is great but it can get crowded around dinner time. Drinks are awesome and the backscratcher will knock you out if you aren't careful. The bar in England in Epcot is good as well. Had some great bartenders there doing "Stupid bartender tricks". Kept us in laughter all day. Also if you are looking for a great time at a bar with friends then go to Port Orleans Riverside. I forget the name of the man that does the show there but he is utterly fantastic. He can get the most pretentious and shy person up to perform in his one man show. One of the hidden treats that I am looking forward to during my trip in Nov/Dec.

I was at Coronado in August, and the pool bar is one of the reasons we are going back for honeymoon in December.. the bartenders there were great, (especially Max, and Jesus) not sure if it was just us, but we made friends with the bartenders, and got all the "mistakes" at no charge... IE: someone wanted a margarita, they made it, but the guest wanted it frozen afterall... well we got the one on ice no charge... probably the best "bar" experience I've had since turning 21... Cant wait to go back and visit them pool side!

gotta go with Walter,Stephen,John and Fransisco and the guys at the tambu lounge at the Polynesian. The outer rim at the contemporary. Also you can just go to the bar at the California Grill with no reservation, cant beat the view there.
