Isn't this the same guy on TV awhile back that made a water flume-type ride of sorts in his backyard? I remember seeing something on that on the discovery channel at one time.

But that is a good idea... maybe I should start building on a test track ride around my apartment complex :)

I used to have plans for my own backyard water ride but i never built it...
It consisted of about a 15 foot drop (most likely 10 ft)...The Ramp was wooden, covered in that rigid-plastic covering (i've seen it mostly used on Carport roofs) and a hose...That would make the waterfall down into something similar as to one of those AERO Inflatable Pools..and at the top is where you would get on in an inflatable raft (one of those cheap ones from Wal-Mart or something) with about a 40 foot long rope attached at the top. That way, you push off, go down the spillway, splash down, go back up to the top, reel it in, and start over again.

Ok, I just want to go on the record here and tell you that the guy who built the coaster is an idiot. (Among other things... the term "hick" comes to mind, specially since he's form SOUTHERN Indiana... please don't base your opinion of us centralers on those that live further down. NO offence to those perfectly normal folks who live down there... but surely you've noticed the majority of your "kin" are beer swigging four wheel driving bad to the bone rednecks) You have praised him for knowing physics but get this. He didn't know the physics! He said himself in an interview that the first time he rode it he didn't even know if it would work or that he would survive, a big part of which being the fact that the "seat" is an old Ford seat. His lack of knowledge in physics is primarily brought to light by the fact that his "loop" is a perfect circle. BIG mistake. No major SAFE coaster has a loop that is a perfect circle. It doesn't work. Too much force. I'm not gonna go into detail, so if you wanna know more about that... read up on some Amusement Park Physics. While doing my term paper for school last year I interviewed him and went to his house as my report was on Theme Park Physics. After viewing the monstrosity I quickly declined an offer to ride it. But, what more can I say? He's from Indiana... maybe we're too ambitious here in our Hoosier state. One thing is for sure though, when he starts building these coasters for large chain parks, which he has claimed he's doing (though, looking at his designs... no sane company would buy his coasters... nope, not even Six Flags), you wouldn't catch me dead (hehe, I made a joke) on one of them. Pardon me if I sound harsh.... but what this guy is doing is NOT safe and people who know the first thing about physics can see that. He's giving our state a bad name! Granted, our state quarter is going to also (We are gonna look like SUCH hicks...) but, what are ya gonna do but vent your feelings on a Disney board. Hehe.... I kill myself. (If only...)

Jake I agree with you on this one. I mean real coasters are built from tubular steel, not iron bars welded together. I mean the seat a looks like it could fall off at any second. They were nuts to even ride it let alone that little kid. And you are right about the loop. Any idiot who has ever been on a coaster or has played Roller Coaster Tycoon knows loops are never a full circle. This guy is either going to be killed or sued because someone else got hurt or killed on it.

I am not trying to sound like a jerk but this guy is crazy. And if anyone else wants to build their own coaster hire an engineer to see if your plans are safe. Or just buy a season pass to an amusment park. Build a monorail, at least then you dont have to worry about physics.
