Backstage Magic Tour Question

I was reading reviews about the Backstage Magic Tour that goes to MK, Epcot, & DHS and I'm considering to do this. But I have a question on one thing and that is The lunch at Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. It says it's a "Family style" Meal what might this be? I go solo on my trips and I'm not sure what it meant if it was buffet or order by menu.

I've never done the tour you are referencing but I've eaten at Whispering Canyon plenty. I'm not sure if they'll make you take the "family style" option. Whispering Canyon does have a regular menu with the all-you-can-eat "family style" platter being an option you can order. The "family style" platter is a great big platter of chicken, ribs, sausage, baked beans, corn, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. It's placed in the middle of the table and you dish up what you want to eat onto your plate. It's pretty good stuff. I especially like the cornbread with butter. :slurp:

Whispering Canyon's lunch menu can be found here:

Hope that helped at least a little bit.

On the tour the food is all served family style and you do not order. They will bring out a good variety of items for you to choose from. Even when I did the tour about 5 years ago and lunch was at Mama Melrose's we were served family style.

For the OP, do not fear that you will be traveling alone. Family style is just the term used when food is brought out for a table to share instead of each individual person ordering their own item (think Garden Grill, Ohana, etc).

I was wondering about that. I know on Keys to the Kingdom in '08 we were shown our menu options for Columbia Harbor House when we checked in for the tour early in the morning. Wasn't sure if this tour did the same with WC's menu. I'm sure it's easier to do the family style. And we've always enjoyed the platter food they serve. Thanks for the info, tho. Good stuff to know! :D

Think of family style like this. How would you eat if you were at home for the holidays and all your relatives came over? Usually every sits at a table, and there are bunch of dishes on the table full of food. If you want some, take some. If not, leave it for the next person. Just remember to pass to the left hand side.

In November they added Animal Kingdom to the tour!!
Lunch was CANYON SKILLET
ALL-YOU-CARE-TO-ENJOY
Smoked Pork Ribs, Oven-roasted Chicken, and Pork Sausage served with
Cowboy Beans, Corn on the Cob, Creamy Coleslaw, Mashed Potatoes,
and Fresh-baked Cornbread and then they served a skillet of hot peach cobbler with ice cream.
The wait staff were not crazy and the meal was very nice. We got to sit with one of the tour guides and really enjoyed her company.
