Backstage Access To Parks?

This may sound like a really STUPID question, but why doesn't Disney allow limited unsupervised access to the backstage areas? I know they have the tours and what not that run through The Magic Kingdom, but aren't they supervised and usually led by a tour guide?

When I say backstage, I'm not talking about Mr. & Mrs Joe Brown and family walking into the pyro-technics area at Epcot. Areas like that would be kept off-limits. I'm talking about maybe letting annual passholders go into, lets say, one of the corporate lounges on Disney property. I'm sure they use those corp. lounges for special functions, but on days where they're not being used, they can allow access to them so Mr. & Mrs Joe Brown and family can sit up inside the corp. lounge @ Test Track and watch the ride from a different angle.

One of these lovely days, I'm going to take that backstage tour at The Magic Kingdom just to see how "stuff" happens :)

The corporate lounges are for exactly that, they are for the ~employees~ of that corporation. The GM lounge is for GM employees and there families only!! They do have two AP lounges one at the Land@Epcot and also at AK.

Disney made a big mistake when they started airing those commercials about annual passholders "moving into" WDW... Some annual passholders actually got into that mindset... Lets face it folks, annual passholders aren't special people... They are a paying guest just like any onter guest that walks into a Disney theme park. The only differrence is that they where smart to buy a pass that would save themselves a few bucks in the long run... Disney doesn't "owe" the annual passholders anything...

Well i can understand about new APs but what about families like mine which are charter APs meaning weve had them since they came out. i believe it was in 82 when they came out. *off topic* since were talking about passes my family and i were the first to get the new passes where you use your fingerprints. It sorta felt like an honor:D

Well, yeah, I kind of figured as much, but I thought it would be cool if guests in general (being it passholders OR NOT) could get access on certain days to the lounges. But, since they're for the families and employees of those corps, then, let them have their "laughing place." I still have to go find mine.

I'm not saying that annual passholders should be treated like dirt or anything like that, just that they really shouldn't get any type of special treatment... The AP lounge is a great idea and I think Disney should continue offering it to the passholders, but where do you draw the line... Basically Disney is already doing you a huge favor by offering you the pass to begin with... Just think about the money you would spend on each visit if the annual pass was not available...

I have passes to all three major attractions in Orlando. I don't go to Universal with the mindset that they owe me for being a passholder. I consider myself lucky that I can walk past the ticket windows with having to dish out 50 bucks every time I want to visit the park...

Think about it, not that many people have the ability to walk into Disney MGM Studios for 30 minutes just to ride Coaster and Tower and then leave...

I go to IOA just to ride Hulk... In and out in less than an hour...

Most people pay the 50 bucks and then try to squeeze every penny out of it... It's all about the convenience, freedom and flexibility, that's what an annual pass is all about!

I'll put it one way...

there's a reason that backstage areas are backstage. There's nothing worth seeing back there, and people caught spying around there are usually given the boot for the day and their passes (whatever type they may have) are revoked.

The Corporate Lounges are considered onstage locations, since selected guests are allowed in there, so all CM's there have to be "show-ready"

Well I was debating weather or not to post but I am putting in my two cents.

What about stockholders, You know us people that infuse money into the company so that they plan and invest into the properties.

My family has owned stock in Disney since before I was born in 1963. and I was given stock when I was two and have been steadly increasing my shares since then.In the days when the Disney company was still run by the family after Roys death. And Ron Miller was running the show before Eisner and company the stockholder was given many perks. The one I enjoyed the most was the preview tour in 1970. I may not be in the same caliber as the Bass Brothers but I have shares in the tripple digits none the less. I think we should have some perks and not just the APs or CSs. I guess what I'm saying is us stock holders are a forgoten class these days we used to get the buzz before the general public I guess unless you own a million dollars worth of stock your a nobody.

No guest is treated any better than another at Disney World. That was Walt Disney's philosophy... No one is better than anyone else. AP's and stockholders shouldn't get the few special privileges they do get (Previews etcetera).

Example:
“I have no use for people who throw there weight around as celebrities, or for those who fawn over you just because you are famous.”
Walt Disney<o:p></o:p>

Backstage areas are backstage for a reason. They are areas not meant to be seen. There are things that are dangerous in backstage areas even if it’s not the pyro section, which the employees are educated about and the guests are not. The tunnels tours not really backstage. Those are considered onstage areas and they are specially painted and decorated and the Cast members avoid them. The day they let guests backstage in any more areas is the day I quit. If you want to see those areas, try working a 14 hour day there like we do; you'll get over the novelty really quickly.

Then why would they let us get ahold of special shirts and pins? We're not better because were smart enough to but the ticket, they like us because we come back to disney and spend more money there. The lounges are just encouragement to renew a pass.

No VIP's at WDW

I don't know if this is the case now, but CM's used to call VIP's a "PX" this was a code name so they wouldn't have to say VIP, of course in this ranking a PX could have been a manager or the President.

What's that got to do with the price of rice in China?

Some guests are treated better. Like VIPs and celebrities. And I believe APs and stockholders should get a little bit more perks. They are even in a higher position when it comes to being recognized by the Walt Disney Company.

What happened to these two AP lounges?

I loved those lounges. But they were really only put in after tourism went down after Sept. 11th. They were to bring in APs to boost up attendance. After it went up again, they took them away.

They can't bring normal people into the VIP lounges because that is the whole point of them: to get a way from the "commoners."

If they brought people back stage, it would ruin the magic. :)

Even if they did do this, these so-called backstage areas would quickly become gussied-up onstage areas, and what you'd see there would be no more special than the backlot area of Disney-MGM Studios.
