Back to the Future to close?

On the way out of the Passholders' Preview of The Revenge of the Mummy this evening, one of the Universal staff told me that Back to the Future was going to close later this year, to be replaced by an attraction based on The Fast and The Furious, in the same building. Has anyone heard this?

Can't say I'll be too disappointed - BTTF has always been a bit of a disappointment - too rough. In fact, the same guy told me that he'd been knocked out on the ride once!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is my all-time favorite ride in Universal! Hopefully this is hearsay, and hopefully will remain that way.

(By the way, yes, the 88mph in my Screen Name is for Back to the Future)

How long have i read this rumor.. i believe it has been arund for a little over a year.....

It might happen but most likely it wont happen, BTTF is a popular attraction, it helps spread the visitors around the park... if they do replace it it would be closer to 2007.. or 2015.. hehe

(however the ride could use a decent referbishment on the movie... like at least replace the projectors.....)

That CM is pulling that rumor out of his, you know what..

If anything, an attraction is going in the Wild West Stuntshow.

That rumor has been around for years. I don't see them taking Back to the Future...The Ride out of the park for years, because it is very popular with guests (it was my favorite ride in the park....until I rode Revenge of the Mummy).

Though I'd like to see an attraction based upon 'The Fast and The Furious,' I don't want to see it replace another attraction. There's a nice piece of land between BTTF and MIB, and that wouldn't be a bad place to put an attraction of the sort.

But like The_CEO said, the next place getting an attraction would be the old Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show theater, which has been sitting empty since September.

I love the BTTF movies and I like the ride, but I suffer from severe brain injuries every time I ride it (I'm 6'3" and I go by myself so I never get to ride in the middle of the front row).

TFATF was a horrible movie and has probably already been forgotten (And looking at the box office of the sequal, it has been). No need for a replacement, just a redesign of the cars

BTTF is not a ride...it's torture. I get my head knocked against the side, and my knees hit the wires in the front and that really hurts too. Not to mention the back problems...

I think it is just time for me to check in...

Back to the Future is a USF classic. They will never remove it. I could see them closing it and perhaps adjusting the cars to be a bit more comfortable, but they will not remove it anytime soon.

Kong was a classic and they killed it. So was The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera. If Universal does this, you BET I'll be only visiting IoA from then on, because my three favorite attractions will be officialy extinct.

I hardly think "The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbara" is a classic compared to BTF, Kongfrontation, and the like. (The rubber bad launch was pretty cool)

My father goes to Universal every year because of BTTF. I'm upset that The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbara was replaced & thought Kongfrontation was fun. MIB is my favorite ride there right now.

I didn't care for the Back to the Future ride either. I found myself quite unimpressed with it (but I love the movies). Yet I know it's quite popular so... I doubt it'll be replaced any time soon.

Funtastic World of Hanna Barbara. Cheezy, but it was fun. I grew up on those cartoons (love me some Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and Snagglepuss). Kinda disappointed they replaced it with a NickToons attraction (although I do adore SpongeBob and the Bikini Bottom gang).

You know what I really miss? The Alfred Hitchcock attraction that was where Shrek 4D is now. I love Hitchcock films. Those were movies that could really mess with your mind. I remember back in 1993 after visiting that attraction, I rented both Psycho and The Birds. NEVER watch Hitchcock films back to back in the middle of the night. I had the heebie jeebies for days after!

Back to the future is popular with people of all ages, I can't see them replacing it with something like The Fast and The Furious which isn't as popular with older people, say 45 ---> . And i think the ride is still great anyway!
