LOS ANGELES -- A ride that took theme park visitors "Back to the Future" is about to be relegated to the past.

The Universal Studios Hollywood ride based on the film trilogy starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd was taking its final passengers Monday. It was closing to make room for a new "Simpsons" attraction.

"Back to the Future — The Ride," was the theme park's first high-technology thrill ride when it opened in 1993.

Passengers were strapped into a moving carriage — modeled after the film's DeLorean time machine — in front of a film projected on a domed screen, which gave the illusion of flight.

The new ride based on "The Simpsons" TV series will debut next year, theme park officials said.

I don't know how to feel. I'm really angry that Universal closed my favorite ride in the history of the park (and that it only fortifies my opinion that USF is moving to "Ride the Movies" to "Ride What's Been Popular for the Last Three Months"), but I love the Simpsons and it's about time that they got a theme-park incarnation.

So, I'll have to go with:
:) :) :) :) :)

(PS: I finally have time to post, so I'll try to do it more often)

All of the merchandise was on sale in the front of the old gift shop Monday. I did not see the ride and I think it was closed. I was there on Monday and walked right past where the ride was and it was not there.
Unless that pitcher of Sangria blinded me!

Wait... what?

Either every BTTF fan celebrated the "last ride" at the end of March for nothing, or the AP has their facts screwed up.

I'm quite sure this article is referring to Universal Studios Hollywood, not Orlando.

Damn... I knew that would happen.

Now to activate the time circuits and set 'em to March Break 2007 for UO... :D

When we were at US Orlando in August, we ran to get on BTTF and were extremely surprised and disappointed that it was closed! However, I wondered why they did not close ET instead....to me Back to the Future is one of those classics while ET is fading....any thoughts?
