Hi All!

I have a question for anyone that has had back surgery. I am having back surgery next week. I was orginally planning a sept trip but with this development we are going to travel in Dec. My question is, is that enough time. Will I be able to get around easily or would i need to rent a scotter.
I have a ruptured disc in my lower lumbar anyone have something similar then travel to disney?

Thanks for any advice you can give. I don't want to travel if its going to be too diffucult to get around after 4 months. Or if its a good amount of time then we would love to go in December:sohappy:

Two options here - speak with your doctor / consultant and take their advice re your recovery rate and what you can expect to be like in December. OR, book your vacation and rent a scooter if it aids your mobility around the parks.

I suffer from lower back problems around the Sacrum / Lumbar Spine areas. Most of the time I have no problems but occaisonally I suffer great discomfort and need physiotherapy. My last two Disney trips have been affected in some way by the back - but thankfully not sufficiently to need a scooter or to ruin the trip.

At the end of the day, if your back is beyond repair then you're in serious trouble for the rest of your life. be advised by your doctors and take things very easy if you choose to go - there's always next December :animwink:

It really all depends on how involved your surgery is and how quickly you recover. You need to talk to your doctor and then see what happens after surgery. Best of luck to you.

A few years ago, my husband ruptured a disc and had surgery the week of Thanksgiving. He refused a shot for pain before we left the hospital because he felt fine. Two miles later he was fussing about every bump in the road. TAKE THE SHOT!!!!! By the next week he felt so good he was blowing leaves in the yard and went back to work 1 week later.

Christmas came along and he spent the following 3 days in the hospital after a much larger piece of disc ruptured. The second time he was out of work 6 weeks and didn't lift anything. And he took the shot before leaving the hospital this time too. He started exercises and therapy and felt good most of the time.

The next fall we went to WDW and he rode most of the rides. The only ones that really bothered him were Big Thunder Mountain and Dinosaur.

Don't rush anything, listen to your body and rest your back anytime you feel like you're overdoing it. Good Luck with your surgery.

Last April I had cervical fusion surgrey. The last couple trips to Disney had been very painful and was glad to finally have the surgrey.

When we took our annual September trip, I was still wearing the neck brace to bed. My doctor told me it was fine to do as I pleased, but he did caution me regarding roller coasters. I did ride RnR once and the Yeti once, but that was it.

I did have some discomfort but nothing that stopped me from enjoying in the magic. I am looking forward to this years trip so I can enjoy everything this year!

Thank you for advice and experinces. The doctor told me 12 weeks from surgery I could ride rollercoasters but I also know that sometimes things don't always work as planned so its always good to get other people's advice and experinces. We are shooting for Dec that will put it about 4.5 months from surgery. So hopefully I will be at close to 100 pct. My DH said worse case senario can always do a scotter but would really like to avoid doing that if possible.
