I always thought the 3D Capt. Eo attraction was discontinued in WDW due to the massive amounts of negative Michael Jackson publicity at the time and subsequent negative press in the court trials, etc. Now public opinion has seemed to do a 180 concerning Michael Jackson's image. Plus, the attraction is a 3D movie so recreating the show is certainly relatively less expensive than a ride type attraction. I would tend to think it was recreated in California instead of Florida primarily due to the high positive public sentiment towards Michael Jackson on ther west coast. I think the biggest attraction that has been "reinstated" would have to be 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. I never got a substantiated reason (just a hundred rumors and "I heards") for the Florida closing.

Though I doub they'll ever fully bring an attraction back from the dead, it woudl be great to experience 20k, Mr Toad, JII, Horizons, WoM, Cranimum Command, etc via Innoventions or any other means. Create a new park with all extinct classic attractions like the ones you mention above. The themeing might be hard to make them all gel together but how cool would that be? Disney's Classic Kingdom??? :lookaroun:lookaroun

"Attractions that were too expensive to operate and the average guest was sick of an no longer riding Kingdom?":shrug:

Building a new ride (even if it's a copy of an old ride) is a major financial investment. Basically, would you rather have this, or major upgrades at all the other parks?

Personally, I'd like to see what the future of WDW has in store. Nostalgia is fun, but if you choose nostalgia over progress the parks become stale.

Actually Tiki Room never went anywhere its always been in operation, it received a major renovation/restoration prior to the 50th.

The Tomorrowland Terrace stage never went anywhere, in 98 got a new topper(with tributes to House of the Future and other small nods). In 2000 it would be receive the Club Buzz. And in late 2006 got its current retro topper along with a new patio layout. Its currently closed for a 6 month renovation.

Another small one that came back in a different form than the first time is Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue.

I do agree though small attractions tend to make a coming back (exception being the Subs) well at DLR at least.

Well, maybe not entirely 'back from the dead', Carosel of Progress was darn near. Let's just say back from a coma. There were some years where it only opened at peak crowd times (but seemingly, is now open more often than not). This observance, arguably, may not fit the original question (but the many years I came down and the attraction was closed, seemed like to me).

Ellen's Energy Adventure was taking longer than expected. Most of the ride building changes were done, but the film wasn't. Because Test Track was under construction, and Horizons was closed, this would mean Future World East would be barren for the summer of 1996. (only WoL would have been open)

So, they decided to bring back the original Universe of Energy for a while. The rotating screens were gone, so they made a flat-screen version of the pre-show. The mirrors in the final theater were also gone. Overall it was an inferior show experience, but it was better than nothing.

So, in a sense, they brought back UoE from the dead. (or at least resuscitated it one final time) But as far as I know, Captain EO is the only example of them bringing back an attraction due to popularity, rather than necessity.

Thats not really an example of "back from the dead" in the way the OP was talking, which would mean back in a new incarnation on a permanent basis. The temporary screening of the original Energy Films in the attraction was less about bringing an old attraction back from the dead and more about "Oh crap Future World East has no open attractions and will screw our guest traffic, we need to do something". The quick fix was to put in the old movies to keep the attraction open to handle guests traveling thru FWE till they got finished with the new footage for the attraction. I vageuly remember going on the attraction during this time and I have to say that it was underwhelming to put it lightly, the show didn't have the wow factor it had before, they would have been better off keeping the attraction closed IMO. LOL!! :hammer:

Then if this is true could people please stop pining for Horizons etc to come back cause they are not coming back! :mad:
