Trip Report Baby's 1st WDW Trip, Limo Ride, Stay at AOA and, Well, Just About Everything Else!

Well, hello there! This trip report is for our trip we took April 21-27. I know, late much? Between this trip and now, we had ANOTHER WDW trip, 2 birthdays, including a 1st birthday extravaganza, and busy days working and wrangling a toddler. I also wanted to have all the days posted on my blog first so I could make sure I had all my details straight and in order before posting here...mommy brain is in full effect over here!

I did post a Pre-trip report a while back, but most of the actual plans got rearranged once we were in WDW, so read at your own risk: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...-member-new-fantasyland-and-aoa-a-ptr.863451/

I'll start out with a repeat of the cast of this trip:

Me (Lynn) and my husband (Brett)
I'm a CPA and the planner of the family. He's a photographer and perpetual winner of Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story Mania. We live about 3.5 hours from WDW and are annual passholders and Tables in Wonderland members.

First-Disney-Trip-505.jpg

Trent: Our son was 10 months old when we went on this trip. It was his first WDW trip and trip in general. We are working hard to make him a Disney fanatic...one trip, and ridiculously adorable and cheesy photo at a time.

Day -1: Saturday

The day before our trip is Day minus 1…just a quick note about getting ready…

For the first time in as long as I can remember, we gave ourselves a day to prepare for our trip, instead of going the very next day after working. Well, I gave myself a day to prepare…Brett had a wedding to shoot for most of the day, so it was me and Trent holding down the fort.

And boy was he a needy little fella all day. I thought I never had enough time to prepare for trips before? HA! I had to pack and clean with him in my left arm for half the day…I’m surprised that arm doesn’t look like one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s arms – Mr. Olympia style. Then, he wouldn’t take his naps without me being there, either. I guess it was nice the first time I got to nap with him
icon_wink.gif
I was exhausted by the end of the day.

It’s like they know you have stuff to do, so they turn into this…

After a day of preparing, it was also nice to know we weren’t waking up at 4 in the morning like we usually do, so it meant that we might get at least a few hours of sleep. {Ha! Yeah, right!}

Day 1: Sunday

Like I just mentioned, it was nice to NOT be leaving at 3-4 in the morning to make it for rope-drop on the first day. Normally, we don’t see the point in paying for a hotel for a night if we won’t be there until late at night after work, so we tend to just leave really early on our first day.

This time, since we had planned on Trent’s first ever day at Disney World to be at Magic Kingdom on Monday, we left Sunday for travel, IKEA, checking in and dinner…a relaxing “get settled in” type of day.

I woke up around 7:30 to get ready and finish some of the last packing items that I didn’t get to do the night before. Then, Brett and Trent woke up shortly after. We wanted to leave by 9am, but in typical Svenson-family fashion, we left an hour later at 10. Adding getting Trent ready and feeding him to the mix, I knew we weren’t going to leave on time. When we say we want to leave at a particular time, we should just go ahead and add an hour to it from the get-go.

We hit up the drive-thru at McDonald’s (darn you Chick-Fil-A for being closed on Sundays!) for breakfast on the go. We purchased a season’s worth of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to play on the iPad for Trent. We set up the iPad right in front of him and he watched about 2-3 episodes before falling asleep. Our road-trip was going great so far!

We left Epcot and then headed back to the hotel for our daily swimming fun.

"Mom, what did you do with my water?"

First-Disney-Trip-310.jpg
First-Disney-Trip-311.jpg

We loved the zero entry part of the pool. We could all just sit in the same area and let him play and move around however he wanted. As long as we stayed to the side, we didn't have to worry about kids running by and splashing him too bad. One little girl did it a little and she got the worst look from her mom and some words to the side, so no reaction from us was needed. I don't even think Trent noticed all that much anyway. Before we know it, he'll be the one running into the pool and I'll be the mom giving "that" look. Oh geeze...

First-Disney-Trip-312.jpg

Then Trent took another nap. Yes, two in one day. He stopped taking 2 naps in a day around 6-7 months, so this was out of the ordinary. But we weren't in an ordinary place and this baby was tired!

So peaceful.

First-Disney-Trip-313.jpg

While he was sleeping, we debated where to eat. I checked for available dining times online (I love Disney free Wi-fi! except it was slow at times, but better slow than nothing at all.) and after several minutes of trying to choose, we decided on a 9:05 pm reservation at Boma.

After Trent woke up, we got ready and headed to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We look forward to staying in a Savannah View Room here once Trent is older and can appreciate it. Until then, we’ll stick with less expensive rooms since he just cares about the pool right now anyway.

We waited about 2 minutes and were brought back to our table. The place was empty. It was us and 2 other families in the entire place. Heaven. We definitely took a mental note of that for any future Boma reservations. We had the entire buffet to ourselves every time we walked up there. We were going up and back so fast and often that we didn't get any food photos. We did get a photo of one of our dessert plates. I think this was Brett's plate. Yes, I had my own. Mine probably consisted of 90% chocolate stuff.

First-Disney-Trip-314.jpg

Trent enjoyed several small plates of food, along with his bottle that the cast member graciously helped us warm up at our table….with a huge container of super hot water. Usually when we ask for hot water at a restaurant to warm up his bottle, they'll usually bring us a small cup or coffee mug and don't leave enough room for us to fit the bottle in. This huge container was brilliant. And that water was H-O-T! It had to have been against some food service regulation or something, but we didn't care one bit. It may have been the fastest bottle warming ever. Thank you, smart waitress at Boma.

First-Disney-Trip-315.jpg

We ate A LOT.

We waddled back to the car, ready to hit the bed and get a good sleep to prepare for our early morning at Magic Kingdom…Trent’s first day at Magic Kingdom!

Stay tuned for day 5! Thanks for reading!

Here's to all us part animals at home reading WDWMAgic on a Friday night!

On to Day 5 - a very exciting day! We took a lot of photos this day!

Day 5: Thursday

Today was the day we had been waiting for…Magic Kingdom!

MK had Extra Magic Hour that morning and opened at 8am, so it was a super early wake-up for us. We had left only a few minutes late, which is fantastic for us since we are late for everything. The only way to get to the park from the TTC was the resort monorail, since the Express monorail doesn’t start running until 8:30, so we had to make stops at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian before arriving at Magic Kingdom. We ultimately arrived at the park entrance at 7:45, just in time for the Welcome Show….which they ended up not having. We wouldn’t have been able to see it from where we were standing anyway, since we were more concerned with being near the rope - we had lots to do today!

Turns out, they were shooting a bunch of promotional media throughout the parks and resorts that day for the Monstrous Summer Event, so they were all out of whack as far as “normal” operations go. The night before, we had gotten a note in our room informing us that there would be helicopters flying extremely low all around the resort to shoot video tomorrow. Then, today, we found out that they had projected the Monsters onto Spaceship Earth at Epcot the night before. That would have been cool to see...I wish we would have stayed there the rest of the night. But Boma sure was nice too :hungry:

We also tried really hard to make Trent wear his Mickey ears today. He had no problems wearing hats since he was born all the way up to this point, and even wore them quite frequently as we were trying to "train" him to like them, but as soon as we step on Disney property, he wants nothing to do with anything on his head. We had a special shirt made for him from Zazzle that said "My First Disney Trip" with Trent and 2013 in Mickey ears, so his actual ears completed the look.

FYI - you can NOT make anything custom on CafePress that has anything copyrighted by Disney on it. We submitted our design for the shirt and they denied it. They have scanners or something that quickly review what is submitted. We had no problems with getting it printed at Zazzle, though. There's lots of great companies on Etsy too. Just thought I'd mention that to anyone that considers getting anything custom made with your own design.

As soon as we were given the “All clear” we raced off with the rest of the herd down Main Street. But, for the first time ever, we didn’t go to one of the big ticket attractions.

Nope…no Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for us this time…we booked it to Dumbo.

That’s right my friends, Dumbo.

And we have never been more excited to head to a ride in our lives. We decided that Dumbo would be his first Disney ride ever, but unfortunately our plans changed because of the weather and he had ridden several rides at the other parks up to this point. So while that part of it was sad, that didn’t take away from it being his first ever ride at Magic Kingdom and a ride that has been a favorite for many small children for ages. We were also looking forward to taking a peek at the new ride queue. We were ready to go!

This is one of my favorite photos of the trip. I love his expression....and that he's wearing his Mickey ears.

First-Disney-Trip-317.jpg

We parked the stroller and headed in…we were practically the only ones in the entire area! We walked right on. Trent and I sat together and Brett sat a few seats ahead of us so he could turn around to take photos of us. Trent, of course, looked everywhere BUT the camera. I can't blame him, there are so many cool things to look at!

First-Disney-Trip-318.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-319.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-320.jpg

The funny thing is that this was my first time riding Dumbo, too, and I felt like it was over way too fast, so we got off and walked right onto the other side and rode again!

This next expression cracks me up.

“Mom, is with these flying elephants? And why I am I awake so early? Where’s my bed?”

First-Disney-Trip-321.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-322.jpg

We took some photos of Trent right in front of Dumbo after we were done. You can see the shirt we had made for him this trip good in these photos. Can you tell he was having fun?

Next, we rode the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The new queue was pretty fun. It’s nice to see Disney trying to find ways for kids to stay entertained while waiting in long lines so us adults can play on our phones

First-Disney-Trip-326.jpg

And look!!! His Mickey ears are still on!! Yay!

First-Disney-Trip-327.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-328.jpg

We decided to get Fastpasses for the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. The Fastpass distribution is in front of Philharmagic, so after we got those, we parked the stroller (again…sheesh, next time I need to keep track of just how much time is spent parking the stroller throughout the trip) and headed to It’s a Small World. IASW is not a ride we normally go on, but we thought it would be good for Trent…

…who ended up falling asleep by the second room.

See...even babies fall asleep on this ride. Haha

During this trip was when he perfected falling asleep with his head rested on my shoulder while being held…something he’s never really done before. I guess waking up at 6:30 am and going non-stop will do that to a baby.

I absolutely adore this photo. My new shadow.

First-Disney-Trip-334.jpg

While he slept, we took the opportunity to head to Gaston’s Tavern for our first gigantic cinnamon bun and LeFou’s Brew.

First-Disney-Trip-335.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-337.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-338.jpg

LeFou’s Brew was delicious (we got it without the keepsake cup – we don’t need another plastic cup in the house). We had seen photos of the cinnamon bun in the past, but for some reason had never gotten one before. While it was rather large, I think it would have been 10 times better if it had been warmed up right before being served. I felt like I was eating a loaf of cold bread with hardened icing on top. We were kind of disappointed, but that didn’t stop us from eating all of it. Waste Disney food, we do not.

While Trent was still sleeping, Brett took some photos of New Fantasyland and the Be Our Guest area.

There’s definitely lots of new pretty things to look at. A waterfall here, cool forced perspective there…but I am anticipating it being completed. They did allow a little sneak peak through a wall at the Seven Dwarves Mine Train coaster being built.

First-Disney-Trip-500.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-499.jpg

Just as Trent was waking up, it was time for our Fastpass return time at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Someone is rested and ready for fun...with a new hat! This hat was for sun-blocking purposes.

First-Disney-Trip-356.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-357.jpg

The ride is similar to The Seas with Nemo and Friends at Epcot, a continuously moving ride in seashell cars. I love going on brand new rides, experiencing them for the first time, seeing the new technology and paint. While thrill ride it is not, it was fun and nice to look at.

Next up, we took a chance and went on Haunted Mansion. We skipped the interactive queue, since we experienced it last time we were there, and walked right into building. Trent was such a champ…he wasn’t scared at all and he even let out a few “oohs”. I hope he keeps up his adventurous ways! After all, Brett needs someone to ride Tower of Terror with him asap...mommy doesn't ride TOT. :hungover:

First-Disney-Trip-370.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-371.jpg

Something else that we normally skip is Country Bear Jamboree, but we did it today since we thought Trent would like it. Trent watched it while standing on my lap, but he was more interested in the GoGoSqueeze applesauce he was eating.

First-Disney-Trip-372.jpg

After a quick pitstop to get Fastpasses to the Jungle Cruise, we ventured to Pirates of the Caribbean. We waited in line for about 10 minutes…perhaps the longest wait of our entire trip.

I was extremely happy to be in a boat without some dummy using their flash on the ride. I was also extremely happy that Trent was amazing during the ride. This kid makes me smile at how well he has done with rides.

We redeemed our Fastpasses on the Jungle Cruise, which I could do without, but Brett really likes it and we figured Trent would like the boat ride. What’s ironic is that Brett is the one that likes it, but I’m the one that participates in all the corny jokes.

Since it was about time for Trent to eat, we then headed to the Baby Care Center, which is right next to Crystal Palace, while Brett took photos around the park. Out of the 3 Baby Care Center experiences I had this trip, this was absolutely my least favorite. First, it was crowded in every room. I walked into the nursing room to find 6 other moms in there, all facing towards each other and having a big ol' conversation. The only chair available was right by the door, so any time someone peeked in to see if there was a spot, there was me to welcome them. One lady even came in and sat on the floor waiting for a chair to become available…man, this place was hoppin’!

On the plus side, Brett got some great photos while I was in there!

At this point, it was H-O-T, so we decided to get the heck out of there. We had to check into our new room at the hotel anyway. We had been staying in a Little Mermaid room up until today and would be staying in a Lion King Suite for the rest of the trip (we wanted to try out both rooms and there was a discount on the Suite).

We stopped for a few more photos.

Home. :inlove:

First-Disney-Trip-386.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-387.jpg

On our way out, we stopped to buy a drink, which we are glad we did, because while we were waiting, we saw a parade was about to walk by! Normally we keep track of the times of shows and parades and such, but we were winging it this trip so we were glad to be able to catch it.

First-Disney-Trip-390.jpg

We took the ferry back to the TTC and then headed to our hotel. That same shirt that says "My First Disney Trip" on the front says "Follow me to Main Street USA" on the back. We got several comments on it throughout the day and I'm glad Trent didn't get any stains on it so we can keep it as a keepsake.

We went to check in…this time Trent was with us, but he was passed out! Good timing again, kid.

First-Disney-Trip-400.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-401.jpg

Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we got lunch at the food court. Brett enjoyed a custom pasta dish and I got a create-your-own burger.

First-Disney-Trip-402.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-403.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-404.jpg

We were supposed to receive a text when our room was ready, but almost an hour had passed and we were anxious to move all our stuff in and relax before heading back out to MK. I had also read before that they aren’t very good at texting you, so I went to ask if our room was ready yet….and it was. Glad I asked.

We loved the suite from the moment we stepped into the air-conditioned hallway. There was plenty of room in the Suite for the 3 of us and the amenities were perfect for a family with a baby.

This is the sitting area to the left as you first enter the Suite.

First-Disney-Trip-405.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-406.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-430.jpg

This is the first bathroom to the right as you enter the suite. Since we had a handicap-accessible room, this was the only bathroom with a bathtub, so we used this for Trent's baths. We thought it would be good to help him feel comfortable by bringing some toys and the no-slip mat from his bath at home, so we put all that in here since we had our own bathroom.

First-Disney-Trip-408.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-410.jpg

We used this table to set all of our electronic equipment on. Phones, laptops, cameras, camcorder, chargers, wires = amusement park for a baby.

First-Disney-Trip-411.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-420.jpg

There is a mini kitchen area with a sink, coffeemaker, microwave and refrigerator. If you have a baby and need to warm bottles or keep baby food cold, this little area is so perfectly convenient.

First-Disney-Trip-424.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-426.jpg

We loved having a separate room, which made nap time much easier.

First-Disney-Trip-414.jpg

Here is the large bathroom connected to the bedroom.

First-Disney-Trip-417.jpg

Having a sun rising in the shower didn't wake me up any better, but it did make me want to bust out into song.

We headed to the Big Blue Pool for our daily swim and it was such a short walk compared to the walk from the Little Mermaid room! After we splashed around for a little while, we came back to the room so Trent could nap again…this baby was tired! He didn't sleep for very long when we were checking in, as we had to wake him to have lunch, so this nap was just continuing where he left off.

First-Disney-Trip-316.jpg

Luckily, he could sleep in the bed in a separate room, so I put him in there after this photo was taken and we were able to get unpacked and relax without bothering him.

Our afternoon break from the park was probably a little longer than what we would have wanted and it was getting dark by the time we made it back to MK. We took the ferry this time because the sky looked gorgeous and knew it would be a pleasant, relaxing ride…which it was.

Continuing with the relaxing theme, we went on one of my favorite relaxing rides…the Peoplemover. About 10 seconds into the ride, we stopped…and didn’t move for 15-20 minutes. Apparently, there was a hat that had blown onto the tracks and they had to run through the ride to retrieve it. Luckily, the dance party was going on so we had some entertainment while we waited.

First-Disney-Trip-431.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-433.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-434.jpg

Someone doesn’t like being stuck on rides this long!

First-Disney-Trip-432.jpg

Then it was time for our Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party. But not before stopping to dance!

First-Disney-Trip-435.jpg

Oh and ladies, the shoes I'm wearing are the Skechers Go Walks. I have worn all kinds of shoes to WDW over the years and these have been the best so far. Easy to slip on and off, breathable and very comfortable. I didn't have the dreaded "Disney pain" in my feet that usually kicks in by 2nd day.

We had been to the Dessert Party before and loved it, but I vowed that I would not eat too much dinner before the party if I ever went back so I could have more room in my stomach for all the yummy desserts...so I didn't even eat dinner at all haha.

One of the reasons we booked the Dessert Party was so we could have a relaxing wait for the fireworks, instead of standing in a crowd with a baby who doesn’t like sitting in the stroller for too long. This way, we enjoyed our delicous desserts while sitting down, Brett got to set up a nice little tripod spot by the railing and we simply walked up to the railing to watch the show when it started. We also didn’t have to fight the crowd to get to Tomorrowland when we were finished. It’s well worth the money to us.

I kept the little sign they gave us when we attended this party a few years ago and it says "Party of 2" and so I am keeping this one too...the first time it says "Party of 3" - we were so happy to now be a party of 3 at WDW.

First-Disney-Trip-439.jpg

We were in the second group of seatings, so the buffet wasn't exactly worthy of photos, but we did take photos of one of our plates. I think this is Brett's since he had pink lemonade. I had coffee and milk. Milk is a must-have for me when I'm enjoying baked goodies. Also notice the second grouping of desserts behind the plate...we both piled our plates so high that we had to move some stuff off in order to dig in. Yum.

First-Disney-Trip-440.jpg

Mmmm…delicious desserts!

First-Disney-Trip-441.jpg

This was the first time Trent had seen a full fireworks show. He had seen Fantasmic the other night, but that only has a quick fireworks burst. I really wish I had recorded it because it was so darn funny and cute, but with every explosion, he would yell "OOooohhh!" We couldn't tell if he was scared or in awe at first, but he never cried and watched the entire show...so I guess he liked it.

Here are just a few of our favorites.

After the Dessert Party, we saw that Buzz was walk-on, so we went on that…and ladies and gentleman, we have a winner!

For Trent’s favorite ride, that is!

He frickin loved that ride.

The bright, glowing signs in the dark, the spinning mobile, the shooter gun…all of it. We sat down and he immediately grabbed the gun and the spinning joystick…this kid takes after his dad, for sure. Since he loved it so much, we went right back on and I think he loved it even more the 2nd time…he even maxed out his score! (Mommy may have helped)

First-Disney-Trip-446.jpg

First-Disney-Trip-447.jpg

Trent was apparently too busy shooting stuff and spinning to be bothered with taking a ride photo.

First-Disney-Trip-448.jpg

Too bad he would never wear it...

First-Disney-Trip-449.jpg

This is what happens to babies that don't sleep through the night!

First-Disney-Trip-450.jpg

The park was winding down for the night, so we just headed towards Fantasyland to meander out of the park, when we saw that the carousel had no wait, so we jumped right on for Trent’s first carousel ride!

I think you will love the Lion King Suites! There is plenty of room and it's very convenient, but not as loud as the Finding Nemo area (I'm guessing). The pool area was definitely one of our favorite aspects of AOA. Enjoy your trip!
