Avengers Infinity War Movie Reviews

New York Times gave what had to be the least detailed review I’ve ever read (wasn’t exactly positive)

See...I learned from my mistakes...

That includes time, the times, the LA times, and the post...so if you throw those types out, what you see so far is critics from more “fan friendly” outlets saying it fits with marvel and builds to what appears to be the end next year.

...I’ll take it. We can’t reasonably expect more.

Honestly, I would barely call the NYT review a review. It’s barely a summary. Gave less details about IW than TLJ, it was weird.

90% of the reviews on RT are positive right now, but some of them are barely what I would call positive (2.5/4, 6/10). I’ll judge it on my own Thursday, but I’ve lowered my expectations.

I mostly agree...but I’m curious why your expectations are lowered?

Honestly...there’s a growing disconnect between longterm quality/enjoyment of the movies and what the critics say.

I referred to one really bad example...but it’s not the only one.

I think social media/Fan compilation might be the wave of the future...and yes, I know what a shockingly dangerous/disasterous stance that statement may be 😳

From what I’ve read (and what I guessed would happen), some characters are barely present due to an overwhelming abundance of Avengers. And given who they are, and their stories in the past films, that’s not great to hear.

(If you’re curious, I’m putting them in the spoiler tag below):
Natasha, Rhodey, Sam, Bucky
Also, it sounds like the Russos might have been trolling us with Hawkeye, if this one review means anything

Awesome....now when I heard 67 characters...I’m not shocked by what you’re saying.

And let’s face it: some characters are on the outs due to contracts and the cheaper ones will be promoted.

I know how corporate is gonna think that way.
sorry...I read that spoiler tag backwards. Those characters are really side characters/diversions. They also aren’t “superheroes” for an intergalactic War...that won’t ruin my enjoyment.

Again, why do we need a whole other thread for reviews?

Is their another one?

And if there is...what’s the harm in discussing a movie?

Threads that are 5 YEARS long can be tedious...there tends to be a lot of that. Just like there are 600 on every one thing on other boards. We need to be somewhere in centerfield.

Seeing this in a few hours. Not feeling the superhero fatigue yet- I'll try and post a quick something when I get back.

OK, no spoilers...

A very good 1/2 of a story. But I do agree that Infinity War and ???(AKA Avengers 4) are not one big movie- these two halves should feel very different. I'm not saying there isn't a full story told here- there is definately a beginning, a middle, and a very satisfying conclusion, but there is also clearly more to come.
All the different sub-franchises were both true to themselves while blending quite well together. Some characters I wasn't expecting to see did show, others did not.
Many, many laugh-out-loud moments. Great and clever action. It gets dark, but in a way that I think most kids can handle- not scary or gruesome dark, but this movie achieves a tone that is... haunting.
Thanos is an interesting character with more depth than I was expecting. His minions are OK, though there was one who stood out as a more fleshed out and interesting character.
I think those who may get the most out of this are those not accustomed to comic-book style storytelling. There are genuine surprises (I haven't read Gauntlet, but have absorbed most comic movies) but I found myself able to anticipate a bit by knowing what the possibilities were. Hard to explain, but I think the casual viewers are the ones in for a more experience.
Also, I do think that some of the shots that were in the trailers were there to fake us out. Not shots that were cut, but shots crafted specifically for the trailer that couldn’t have been in the movie.
Only one tag at the very end, but stay for it as it's one of the best.
Peter Dinklage... quite a role reversal.

Lastly, after 18(?) films I declare my fatigue level at... gimme more.

Having slept on it I'll add:

The many worries and difficulties of this massive production were pulled off so well that its greatest accomplishment is that you are free to focus on and nitpick the details.
