If the boat ride is what I think its going to be though, then it might very well become the e-ticket at least in the minds of people like myself.
I am not an Avatar fan, never was, but if the boat ride truly does become an exceptional e-ticket, it may sway me to visit Avatarland more than once.

I think the boat ride is going to be the linchpin in determining how good Pandora actually is a theme park land. With Cameron on board, I have high hopes that it will be a great experience and be exactly what DAK needs to become full fleshed out.

I don't believe Disney can pressure Cameron to add anything into his movies that will be an idea for a park tie in. Cameron doesn't need Disney but Disney needs Cameron.

As I recall, Cameron was adamant in what he expected out of Disney (three rides) until AFTER they bought LucasFilms. All the sudden he settled with what Disney wanted to do. Had Cameron pulled out, Disney would have gone Star Wars/Indiana Jones crazy. No, Disney doesn't need Cameron. And Cameron is, apparently, more businessman than artist.

Is anyone surprised at this, Cameron's films have always been technical tour de force'es but lacking on the story side.

They kind of do though. It would be embarrassing at this point to pull the plug on Avatarland. On the other hand, Cameron doesn't need anything from Disney. I don't think this is about the money for him. He bathes in it like Scrooge McDuck. It's about having his brainchild represented in a theme park. If Disney does it up to their standards, that has value to him. If not, not so much.

Pull the plug? Not likely! I'm sure that Disneys' lawyers have this wrapped up tighter than Dicks' hatband. His advice and input would be helpful, probably invaluable, but Pandora goes forward with or without him. It's kind of like Harry Potter. Uni could not have outbid Disney had Disney really wanted to have Potter. But Rowling insisted on the final say...on everything! Disney bid to the point they were willing to put up with Rowling. When the price went above that ceiling, they stopped. I don't know but, given that, I can't see them giving Cameron all that much control. And, certainly, not enough to pull the plug.

Now that they know these movies will be going into AK, I fully believe that will influence what movies get made. They know they want food locations and merchandise options so don't be surprised when Avatar 2 introduces a signature restaurant or drink and a cute animal side kick goes on their next adventure.

The movies aren't Disney. TWDC bought the theme park rights not the movie rights. The sequels are being distributed by FOX right? I doubt Disney has any power to change anything in the movies or dictate things being added or timeframe of release.

Just checked IMDB.com and that article is wrong. Only two sequels are planned and will be made. Cameron has been planning his next mega block buster "Battle Angel" for a number of years. The screenplay is already done, and, according to IMDB.com, it's already in pre-production. The Avatar sequels are just something he had promised the studio he would do because the first was such a success. His heart's really not in these sequels, as it's in Battle Angel. A third Avatar sequel (made by Cameron) would only further delay production of Battle Angel, something I believe Cameron would like to avoid.
This line of thinking seems kinda silly. So was Cameron's heart no longer into Titanic since he was already planning Avatar? When I've seen him talk about the Avatar sequels he seems pretty pumped up to make them. Maybe he's just a good actor too.;)

I highly doubt Cameron would have accepted a contract that didn't guarantee him some level of creative control.

I think a good way to sum up Avatar is this. I'm not saying everyone feels this way, but for me, I thought it was good when it came out, but I have absolutely no desire to ever watch it again or see any sequels.
I didn't like it when it came out. I have to agree no desire to watch it again nor see the sequels.

"Some level", of course. Rowling, however, wanted Joe Rohdes, head imagineer control. Disney wouldn't give it to her, I doubt they give it to Cameron. And certainly not enough to pull the plug.

I am sure he had the ability to pull the plug up to a certain point in the development, but probably not at this point.

At this point, he's signed off on whatever. So presumably, he's on board. There will be no pulling of plugs.

But my point still stands. Disney needs Cameron more than Cameron needs them. Cameron doesn't need Disney at all. Not one bit. Disney doesn't *need* Cameron, but it's their best interests to keep him as happy as they can. I'm sure it's in his contract that he can't outright bash Avatarland even if it sucks. But an enthusiastic Cameron is better for Disney than a Cameron who is contractually obligated not to talk about how disappointing Avatarland is.

A bit off topic, but there is a real *Titanic II* actually being built in China, following the plans of the original (with the required updating and safety items). They are saying they will be providing cruises with the feel of the period!
