It has been months now since the annouced Avatar Land for DAK. Why have we heard really nothing more and seen no concept art?

Is this all because of the legal despute over the rights to Avatar???

But really not even a whisper of what rides may be there!!

I still remain optimistic!

Avatar was in my eyes a great movie as far as CGI and effecs go.

It has potential. With DAK really only being a 1/2 day park to the regular WDWMagic folks it is in need of some additions. DAK is a huge park (size wise) and there isnt too much there.

I just want enough to wet my apitite! They annouced the huge project but all we have is a movie title with Disney Parks logo..............

No concept art should be expected to the fact Disney didn't have any attractions or anything planned when it was announced in late September.

Avatar Land Concept art could be revealed at 2013 D23. I am saying that because Construction is supposed to start in late 2013 and 2013 D23 is supposed to be in March. It possible that the timeline could be off since it was announced for one reason or another. The other thing to look at is Disney could pull the plug on this, but that shouldn't assumed not before late 2013 or early 2014 if there is no concept art by than.

Thats kind of my thought too. Does it have potential? For sure. Was it my first choice? Not by a long shot. The AK is in such need of attractions in my opinion that just about any theme expansion would have been welcome.

From what I understand the settings of the next film is underwater so I wonder if that means some water type rides, or maybe an underwater walk-through type kind of thing. I've alse read the third film will be more Space oriented so I wonder how that will work as well.

I have faith in this project.

I think those who are against this project have been looking at Universal and have had a feeling of defeat/jealously. Lets face it, Potterland will never be replicated again. Universal saw an opportunity, acted on it, and is reaping the rewards. Congrats to them. Harry Potter is/was a phenomena, and chances are we won't see anything like it again in our lifetimes.

When you think of Disney, aside from Pirates I struggle to think of anything Disney has created that remotely holds a candle to the impact Harry Potter has had on billions of people all over the world. Pirates might be the closest thing to that. Because of that, Disney cannot answer the call of Potter with anything in its creative arsenal, it just can't. Therefore, I think to be upset that Disney is planning a $400+ million expansion based on Avatar as a "response" to Potter is extremely naive. By "response" I mean generating the kind of buzz and attraction Potter has had to people all over the world. Yes, Disney is competing for tourist bucks in the Orlando area. But don't forget the draw that Disney is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amusement_park_attendance_figures

By comparison, Universal Studios Florida came in at 13 on the list, with 6.2 million people annually. All four parks at WDW are in the top 10 attendance wise in the WORLD. Avatar is Disney's way of competing with itself and turning its only 1/2 park into a full day park. Theme park building 101 states that you need to keep guests evenly spread across the entire park. The same holds true when you've got four theme parks: you need to keep guests as evenly spread as possible. The Magic Kingdom is the biggest draw at WDW, heck I go there four times for every one time I go to another park. With the new Fantasyland, that attendance figure is not going to change.

Accept that fact that the goal of constructing Avatar is to relieving the stress on the other three parks, NOT to compete with Harry Potter. Aside from resurrecting the Beastly Kingdom, I can't think of a better fit at Animal Kingdom that facilitates this goal. I'm glad Disney is addressing a weak spot, and I can't wait to see the immersive experience they have in store.

I have no opinion on this land yet. I loved the movie and I am very excited, but its too early to say anything when we haven't even seen any concept art. I can take a guess that they may release some concept art on June 18th though. I have heard that Universal may release its concept art about the WWOHP expansion that day and I can very well see Disney releasing some of their own concept art to try to take some of the spotlight away from Universal

Um, I wouldn't lump us all into one group. I think DAK is a full day park and we go multiple days on an extended trip......
