News Avatar Experience coming to Disneyland Resort

here's how. ignore my crude drawing, and black is monorail. Did my best to match concept art of new gate and avatar experience. biggest hope is they update existing hollywoodland since its staying
I know logistically how it’s going to work in the physical space. We’re taking about how it’s going to work from a map and thematic standpoint on how it’s presented to the guests, ie is it its own land or part of Hollywoodland on the map.

But thank you for drawing it up.

Also I wouldn’t bet on Hollywoodland staying longer term. That still could be swallowed up by the surrounding lands in the future as someone mentioned.

I feel like Hollywoodland staying and this attraction being a branch of it is the absolute best case scenario for forcing Avatar into this park, thematically. No other implementation makes any sense whatsoever.

We’ll see if they attempt any sort of transition between the two like I had previously hoped (movie production/set to actual film, etc).

This should be their a final salute to the "Studio Theme Park" conceit.

"Step inside this non-descript soundstage." (Hiding the transition, Diagon Alley-style.) "Here's where we make movie magic which takes you to... Pandora!"

Anything else trying to justify tying the Avatar story to California is going to be a painful stretch.

It really makes so much sense, extend the facades, box in the land, build a portal into movie magic.

They'll never listen to us now that we've imagined this concept publicly :P

My point was that I think the Pandora boat ride could be the best of a dozen announced original weenie attractions worldwide (I forgot new Tokyo Space Mountain).

It was meant to highlight my enthusiasm for this project. Why is that random?
Correct me if I’m wrong but I never saw you post this info on the actual parks investments thread.

In DAK, one travels to a planet 4 light years away by crossing a bridge.

Tamper down any "will it *fit*?" expectations.

;)

And there’s no backstory about a magical bridge right? Wonder why they can’t just use the same approach at DCA? Granted the transition at DCA won’t be as long or good and it’s going to be smaller so they might just be setting expectations appropriately by not referring to it as a land.

Look, there are many options:

  • Jump cuts (Jolly Holiday Bakery / Tiki Room)
  • Revert to Neutral Territory Before Transition (MK’s main street / hub / Tomorrowland)
  • Slow dissolves (Hungry Bear / Galaxy’s Edge)
  • Story Explanations (Multi-dimensional acid marks on the ground between Hollywood / Mission Breakout)

All are legit.

I don't see any reason why it can't be just that simple. Boom, here's Pandora through that portal. No backstory, no big grand entrance with a long pathway, just take a left off Hollywood Blvd and there you are in a new land, I mean destination that is Pandora.

We like to get so deep in the weeds and over complicate and read into things that we end up losing the forest through the trees as it were. Sometimes things are just simple and don't need a lot of explanation, even if that is boring.

To a certain extent I don’t know if Disney can bring themselves to do old school things like that anymore. Like, I don’t even think they would build Pirates of the Caribbean the way the original was, with a swampy trough 6 feet within the entrance.

“Wha… I thought we were in downtown New Orleans!? And why does this waterfall take us back in time now?”

I honestly really don't think there is much need for some convoluted backstory for this one. I mean you even mentioned it, Mission Breakout, all they said was "Bam, its here, the Collector wants to show off his new prize the Guardians". Sometimes simple is better. I think its us fans that demand some huge lore to be added to it, and Disney gets stuck into trying to appease that. Forget all that, its a theme park, doesn't always have to make "sense", it just is.

Well tell that to Disney. Seems like they may be interested in overcomplicating this.

I don't know that they are. Its our reading of their PR that is assuming that is what they are doing. Execution is completely different than the years ahead PR machine that has been used for this project.

In the end the actual execution may just be simple, with no over complicated backstory.

I agree, though I’d say the “BAM” Joe mustered up was more of a justification as to why the Fortress is such an eyesore. “We’re just going to lean into the obnoxiousness of this structure!”

The multi colored drizzle of acid around it is a bit of a hedge (as in hedging a bet, not as in shrubbery): “We can’t really justify why this is a building with sidewalks and hedges (now that IS shrubbery) and not a spaceship, so, eh, blah blah colored acid, blah blah.”
