Avatar 2 and 3 Delayed??? The Effect on Avatarland at WDW...

I can't wait to see what a Pandoran roadside attraction looks like......

I'm thinking they'll go with the theme that guests are visiting the Earth scientists who are on Pandora studying the planet. So there will be little things along the paths that talk about what life on another planet would be like, as if they are science stations where the scientists are learning things.

You know how in Asia and Africa parts of DAK they have vendors with little trinkets and little tastes of exotic food? I bet it will be like this, but with oddball concoctions that are blue or other vivid colors like bright pink and will be made to "appear" to be otherworldly. Heck, they might even have little puppet shows or something animatronic with "baby" versions of the Pandoran animals for guests to see "up close" and a exozoologist on hand to talk about how the Pandoran animal is similar to Earth animals in some way.

I don't know what they will end up doing but it sure is fun to think about!

Pretty vivid random guesses.

DAK is my favorite park. I'm not a fan of the Avatar movie, but I like the idea of having an extraterrestrial aspect to DAK...in keeping with the original intention of the park to have live animals, extinct animals, and animals from imagination. I think the imagined animals from other planets fits that theme very well.

Though, to be honest, I do wish George Lucas would have been chosen as a partner for DAK instead of Cameron. A Star Wars menagerie would have been a lot of fun. There were many interesting creatures from those movies that could have really been WOW-factors in DAK.

Star Wars would have been more out of place than Avatar.

At least Avatar has a conservation theme, which sorta puts it in like with DAK -- I don't see that anywhere in Star Wars.

Agreed. There are pretty few actual "animals" depicted in the Star Wars franchise, mostly just domesticated work animals like steeds. I don't think that could consider intelligent humanoid aliens as "animals".

Pandora, no matter what one things of the movie, does have a ton of unique and imaginative flora and fauna and Avatar carried a strong message of conservatism. Whether this world is effectively brought to life in DAK is another story, but the tapestry is there and it fits in perfectly with DAK if properly executed.

Not surprised at all with all the delaying. Looks like Avatarland is not going to be open until 2017, if it ever happens. Wow, its really a long wait. That means in 5 years except FLE which means very little to me, we have nothing else to be excited about. And during the course of time, other Disney parks or theme parks open or will open including RSR, Carsland(DCA), possible new e-ticket(DL), Grizzly Mine Train and Grizzly Gulch Land(HKDL), Mystic Manor and Mystic Point land (HKDL), Ratatouille trackless 3D E-ticket ride and Ratatouille land(WDS paris), Transformers(UO), Harry Potter phase 1 with new stuff different from Orlando(USH & USJ), Harry Potter phase 2 with possible 2 new E-tickets and a London themed area (UO), an Antarctica E-ticket Ride and new pavillion (Seaworld), and a brand new Shanghai Disneyland. Well, with all WDW's siblings or enemies making a lot of new toys, this Avatar thing better be darn good.

Two thoughts:

1. The longer the films take, the longer Avatar will remain "relevant" in a pop culture kinda way. An extreme example of this is how the Star Tours attraction can only benefit from the Star Wars media and merchandising that continues to be released.

2. If the films take too long, the attractions could suffer in a Shrek 4D or T2 3-D kinda way, that is, the plot of the attraction has already caused it to be dated due to the subsequent film releases. Of course, Cameron is a pretty smart guy, so he'll likely detach the attractions in a Star Tours kinda way, so that they don't rely on any specific plot points from the films that would cause them to be instantly dated as the final film(s) come into fruition.

I would have thought that the scheduling for the Disney installment and film productions would have been kept somewhat in concert so that all may benefit from what is sure to become the ultimate PR campaign.

Do you mean the same Cameron responsible for the "dated" T2-3D?

Another thread about Avatarland with the exact same take from the exact same people as all the other Avatarland threads. Nothing but a fishing expedition by the curious, the competition and those who were on the inside but are now on the outside looking in.

Looks like WDI has fixed all the leaks. Some will say that there is no information leaking because nothing is happening. Yeah right.

Maybe I mis-interpreted your post, but I thought you were saying that dark rides could have a nostagia factor, but 3D live action shows couldn't.

No, of course they can. Mickey's Philharmagic is a perfect example. By the same token, dark rides don't automatically have a nostalgia factor to it. I was thinking more along the lines of a show like T2 at Universal.

Oh dear! I will begin to get "excited" about Avatar when they actually "break ground" if and when they ever do!

I guess I get excited that something may actually get done at AK, and the various possibilities that may bring, but like you, I'll get REAL excited when/if they bring in the earth moving equipment.

This is easily one of the most arrogant biased forums on the internet. Only here would people claim that a film that made just shy of 3 BILLION dollars isn't a sure thing in regards to a theme park attraction.

Can you people that know better than everyone tell me what Disney movies made 3 billion dollars please, and then explain to me why you aren't hypocrites for supporting the construction of more Disney based attractions using the same rationale that you question Avatar for? Thanks.
